I was curious if some of you people here could recommend good music technology universities in the UK? Im doing my 2nd year in National Diplmoa in Music Technology, and have to start thinking if i want to progress to uni, and if so, what uni?

What would be the top music technology universities in your opinion?

Thats and interesting question you ask. I've just taken a Senior Lecturer post at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University. Running a brand new BSc (Hons) Audio and Music Technology.

Naturally you'll not get any feedbaack yet on this particular one as it is just beginning this September.

What I will say is when you mention "What would be the top music technology universities in your opinion?" you have lots of things to consider. Without a shadow of doubt we all learn for various reasons and all courses, music technology being no exception, provide a whole bunch of extra benefits aside from the core syllabus.

In addition, you need to consider the relationships, the surrounding area, the local possibilities, and what you envisage doing after Uni (that's important) and many many other issues.

It's a good thread and I hope we get some quality input on your question not least cause it's also very related to my position too Wink

Perhaps we could refine the question a bit and come up with a list of important things we consider important to making a great course and then check them against known courses running based on student feedback?

Ok well, I understand that there are many universities in the UK that offer music technology related courses, and perhaps some Uni's will suit others. I still dont know exactly what I want to do after Uni. Maybe I will know that, at the end of this year, or hopefully alot sooner. There are at the moment, many areas that I am interested in, but as I said, I havent really pinpointed the main area that really excites me.

The idea of going to universitiy, has just recently came into my mind as a possibility. Now I think, it will be well worth it, so im on the look for imformation. I really dont know anything about any "good" unis for music technology in the UK.
So for the mean time, im just lookin for some imformation on universities and their courses. Placing of the uni, is not a matter. I would be willing to go anywhere in the UK.

In expansion to my original question. I could say, what universities are well equipped for Music technology? What universities have larger music departments than others? What universities have good average results etc? (maybe a harder one to answer!) What uni's have a bit of a good reputation?

It is suprising nobody wants to chat on this, but perhaps not many people have been to a UK UNI for music tech.

Another new course:

Audio Technology for the Moving Image
