Health and safety policies  Reply with quote

Hi,
Im just starting my own business(live sound/pa hire).Im interested to know what policies(worded document) people employ ie:- write their own, or, let someone else do it?
I have been looking into it.Im booked up to do a health and safety course, myself.
I can foresee employing a max. of 3 people,so im not obliged by law to have a written policy. However i feel I should have one, for these reasons:-

1. Its all very well having your H&S plans in your head but realistically you need something set out on paper so you can teach any prospective employees your policies(you are hardly likely to remember every single one)..
2..Im sure certain prospective clients would want to see a written statement.
3.People in England tend to have quite a few accidents especially on Fri and Sat.nights!(So preventative measures would need to be in place)
4.This topic always crops up these days.

Your experiences and thoughts on this matter would be appreciated.

Live Sound Health & Safety  Reply with quote

Hi Will...

I think you are making the correct choice in at least investigating the area of Live Sound Health & Safety.

We do have a resident HS moderator around here who is more into studio stuff, but might be of some use.

One thing you might want to do is contact some of the largish P.A. companies and see what their stance is on the issue, I'm sure they will have a system in place, and possibly some documents for browsing. If you find one which is interested we could offer an article on the subject for the company.

Chris,

Thanks for your reply.I have investigated the subject further and have now written my own statement.
Initially I was surprised at the lack of response from forum members. However since doing my research, this included non sound engineering businesses too,I have concluded this is a much overlooked topic (where small businesses are concerned). Surprised Am I right? Maybe thats why I didn't get much response?
As for finding a large company willing to share their stance on health and safety I'll let you know when I find one!
