Multi Pin Options?  Reply with quote

Does anyone know of a good source for multi pair cable and multi pin connectors to make my own snake for a stage box (xlr,1/4 send/return etc) ? Maybe cable/multi pin brand recomendations? Multi Pin style (ie. Elco)? And, maybe, any design recommendations?

thanks!

I have used these two in the past, both good:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/

These are UK based.

Canford and Multipin  Reply with quote

Its fairly safe to say that Canford are the suppliers for the broadcast industry, I believe that the BBC buy the majority of their stuff from them, Carlton 021 also do. that may not mean much to anyone out of the UK, basically Carlton 021 are outside broadcast specialists.

Canford maybe somewhat pricey, but you are guaranteed quality gear that will last.

Maplins are also good, but do supply budget stuff, so be careful. With multipin setups you definately want to get it right first time round, it is very labour intensive. This may be of some help if you havent done it before:

Thanks, but, one more question...  Reply with quote

Thanks guys that helps alot. One more question: Connector style; ie. round, rectagle, square etc., that doesn't really matter right? It's more of a preference thing and (#) of contact points needed?

Multipin shapes  Reply with quote

I wud say so yes, but rectangular is probably easiest if you are fumbling about behind a rack as you can instantly tell which way round it goes, unlike circular.
