not enough cpu???  Reply with quote

Greetings fellow reason fanatics,

I have just noticed that, poor old reason cannot keep up with playing all those tracks. So I have set the cpu usage limit to %95. It worked for a while but as I have added new tracks and synths, it again started to complain about low cpu sources. The problem is that, I have Pentium4 3.06 Ghz processor with two cores (Hyper Trade Technology). When I looked at the task manager I noticed that, the cpu usage is only %40 or %50, while reason shows %90 cpu usage. So I guess reason is using only one core. How can I use both processor cores while working on reason??

Not sure what "Hyper Trade Technology" is.

What else do you have running on your machine? Is it windows XP? How much RAM?

Yes I know that, he didn't type that Wailing. It is always important to get the words correct.

Yeah "Trade" and "Threading" are two completely different words.

You'd be best to check out how Hyper-Threading works as this is not a Reason issue.

I'm pretty sure you'll not be able to set anything regarding Hyper-Threading within Reason. I'd imagine some of your other programs suffer the same issue.

Here is a helpful link
http://www.2cpu.com/articles/42_2.html

I'm also aware that some software/hardware like ProTools/Mbox suggest disabling Hyper-Threading.

I would also recommend you get your Windows XP setup for a digital audio workstation. Check these tips > http://www.musicxp.net/tuning_tips.php

I would also beef up your RAM. 512 mb is not alot. Especiallly if you are using alot of samples with the NN-XT. Thats when you need more RAM. Get at least 1 gig. And more if you can.

still not enough cpu  Reply with quote

First of all, I appreciate all your answers. I have tried those tuning and optimizing tips and it helped a lot. I have also changed Reason's priority and affinity options (in task manager). But still, it is not enough. I could not find a way to use both cores while working in Reason. It insist on using just one core and I have been pulling my hairs out. So, what I want to ask is that, is it possible to disable Hyper-Threading and how? Or is there any other way?
