Software to record language excersises  Reply with quote

I wonder if anybody can direct me to a correct software, possible shareware or just a cheap one.

I have MP3 files where a person pronounces words and phrases in English wish pauses in between. I want to record my voice in these pauses repeating words and pharses after the teacher. After that, I would send these recordings top my teacher for the feedback. Thanks in advance.

Sure this is farily easy actually.

You need a stereo wave editor, of which a google search for something like "free wave editor" would start you in the correct direction.

Essentially stereo means two channels, you can put the original into one channel (might have to convert to mono) and then record yours on the other channel and then mix them.

This is also achieved with a "multi-tracker".... i.e. a track for each distinct sound source, and again mix them at the end.

Hope that helps.

p.s. I moved this thread.

Hi

I would take a look at Goldwave . its a cheaper copy of Cool Edit Pro/Adobe Audition, so great for stereo editing, you can download an "evaluation" version for free or you can buy it for around $50, but you may find that you can make do with the free version.

Take a look at that link and see what you think.

Also check out 'Audacity' - this one is free and should do everything you need.

Well, you made me look for this thread for a while Smile

OK, Audacity and GoldWave are audio editors, aren't they? I must admit I'm not very good at using this kind of software. maybe I'm just don't understand the technical side very well. I would rather use something that allow to simply play the file I received from the teacher, and pronounce words into the microphone as file is being played. Something that does not require me to edit out channels and so on...

A friend of mine uses app. called Total Recorder. It seems to do the task, but it costs $35...Does anyboady here have any experience with this soft?

Yes that would probably do it, we tend not to look at lower grade products such as that one here, being an audio production school.

The problem is that something has to play your mp3s in the first place, which is why we talk of channels, you put an mp3 on one channel and record on the other.

However, if Total recorder records all the action on your pc it may work, so media player plays you mp3s and total recorder captures that along with your voice from the microphone.
