This is way off the topic of music but then again maybe not, u be the judge. Ok, so im at work and its REALLY loud, i work at a car wash. Blowers are constantly goin, Air compressors goin PPPPSSSSSSSSSSSSS all day long. I couldnt hear ppl unless they stood next to me like at a concert or club, you know. It gave me a splitting headache my first day. the next day i put in some ear plugs they provide for us but i have only seen one other guy wearing them. Ok OK ill get to the question, with the ear plugs in, I can hear poeple better over all the loud noise even without the plugs, does anyone know why that is? Do the plugs act as some kinda filter allowing you to hear certain thing better than others? |

HI
i would think that as these cheap ear plugs are made of foam, they will be filtering out much more high frequency than low, so the high pitch sound of the compressors etc. will be filtered out while the voices of the people are in a lower frequency range so arent cut out quite as much. _________________ If In Doubt...Hit It With a Hammer, If Still In Doubt... Here is a website to visit and it will explain some of your question.

It's always a good idea to protect your ears from damaging noise because once you've lost your hearing it's gone.
Even musicians on stage wear them because of the db levels from amps.
I'll try and find more why you can hear better when persons talk to you.
I always wear mine and I agree you definitely hear better over the noise.

Some companies call ear plugs filters and I think it was Wailing Cat that had it right when he said they were filters.
filters do chop the high frequencies, and these are not recommended for applications requiring accurate sound.
filters, you can better understand conversations in noisy places, reduce your noise-induced fatigue, and protect your hearing but still hear clearly enough to easily carry on a conversation!
