Wireles microphones interference with Tesla coil?  Reply with quote

Hello all!

I am working on a performance, where working Tesla coil will be used on stage as a prop.
Since Tesla coil transmits high frequency electricity trough the air ( in this case 250 Kv at 0,01 A ) this energy can (as I see it) be picked up and interpreted as electric current or radio signal by anny electrical circut or metal element with properties similiar (in tune) with Tesla coil transmitter.

So i am concerned, how wirelwss mic and transmitter/reciever would act in theese circumstances.

I used Cannon xm2 digital camera, recording a smaller coil and
as I got closer I got blue screen with tape eject sign. After camera reset no visible errors or tape drops were noticed.

The problem is also, that the frequency of Tesla coil (by my knowledge so far) is verry high and difficult to measure.

Thanx in advance to participators in this post!

As far as i know a wireless microphone receiver picks up modulated frequency signals and passes these signals into a demodulator circuit built into the receiver and then feeds them to whever the signals are routed. As far as the current emitted by the tesla coil is concerned i don't think it should be a problem. Though, i would like to think, it may cause damge to circuitry around it. The frequency at which this happens also i'm assuming shouldn't cause any kind of problems. Probably someone with more experience in the electrical field will be able to answer your question accurately.
But i don't think the frequency at which the current is generated should cause any damage to the transmitters/receivers of the microphone.....

ive seen wireless mics used in science museums around high power electrical devices without a flaw.

After some research and with a great deal of your help i am no longer worried about smoking the mics.

Thnx to all!
