| Video/sound fx & music sync |
|
|
Has any one of you worked on synchornisation between video and audio Fx and music or live action on stage?
I was thinking about a few options:
1. DVD with a signal (timecode, smtp, midi? on one of the audio channels.
But how to get this signal in a computer and than enterpret it as midi
2. Digital camera, TC-out
Again same problem
3. DVD with an extra channel of signals of -120db and 0 db (like 0 and 1)
Put 0 db at accents, use realtime audio to midi converter, use it to trigger sound fx.
4. Using 2 computers, 1 video, 1 audio, sync via midi.
Any known software supporting midi and video, with video output for projection or screen.
5. Using pick-ups, realtime audio to midi conversion, FX triggering (audio and/or video)
6. Using small pressure switches, signal flow as above, probably different interpretation. ?
Any experiences, thoughts, other ways of connecting, triggering or signal flow?
Tnx in advance, best regards! |

Use an SMPTE to MTC convertor?

What time code out is it?

Um..sorry...but can you expand/explain?

Most video/audio software support MTC (MIDI time code). The video ourput would depend on the output of your VGA card but I think some projectors even support USB/firewire.

You mean something like drum triggers? |

I would need a DVD player with 5.1 output and use one of the surround channels for the trigger track.
This track would consist silence and high volume transients at points, where the effect would be wanted.
The signal could be used for light fx (sound to light on almost anny light table)
or trigger mechanical or electricaly driven fx using a proper rele switch.
But then i would need to mix the 4.1 signal to stereo, what is not just that simple.

Doesn`t camera has an tc-out option?
Or can it run only as tc slave device?
And yes, I was thinking about something like drum trigger.
It`s a bit of theoretical yada yada, but i am interested in this area and some day it might be usefull to me or other participants/readers of this topic.
Thnx for the input! |

I work mainly on audio post for video and video editing , a lot of theater, . performances and events.
I know a few things about all aspects of it (video, light, my beloved sound)
and am verry interested in combining them in programmed systems, synchronising them,...
Trying to put theory in action.
Mostly because i like to do performances with complex technical audio/video fx.
And in the end i would haveto be an octopus to run the show |

| Triggering video through MIDI?? |
|
|
So you want to trigger video through MIDI? That would not exactly mean syncing audio and video then.
Triggering video through MIDI is possible, I have seen it being done but I dont know which software supports this. I've seen a performer here, who uses the Roland V-Drums and triggers all sorts of visuals and sound effects through MIDI.
And most semi-pro digital cams dont have TC support..depends which one you are talking about. |

Practicaly i would run a video with audio track (in this case photo camera clicks on some background) and i would like to have the click on the video supported
with a light change/fx. I am looking for a way to sync this, since light operator would probably have difficulties with manual sync.
It could probably be programed using sound to light function on the light table. but I just posted this topic in a bit broather way, to explore difrerent possibilities and try to apply them to the project i am working on. |

Here ..found something..
ArKaos VJ MIDI: This is a software that triggers videos when it recives MIDI messages. So maybe a simple keyboard controller or a drum pad can be used to trigger visuals. Its got some cool video effects and has support for USB and Firewire video systems too..
