I am completly new to the world of computers and recording, and I'm struggling to comprhend all the terms. So, can anyone answer the question above, and explain how I can get them to work in Audacity (windows, v.2 i think) ? |

A 'Plug-in' is a virtual representation of hardware, or emulation of process.
What you might have noticed is how the world is now utilising computers for pretty much everything, music production is no exception.
We used to use hardware for our audio processors, which was great, place your hands on the unit and twist the knobs. Well we now have virtual representations of those units as software which we can 'plug-in' to various recording software applications.
VST = Virtual Studio Technology and is just one way or protocal/method to achieve this. Other methods are TDM, AudioSuite, RTAS, HTDM, MAS, DirectX.
Hope that helps. _________________ It's all in the ears. - Learn the concepts not the software.
