Home studio furniture  Reply with quote

Does anyone know where I can get a good desk for my home studio. At the moment it is all cramped. If you know of any websites out there that do specific furniture for studios, that would be great!

Cheers

Well Ive decided that im going to have a go at making my own desk.

What I am wanting to know is what is the standard rack size? I dont actaully have any rack units, but will defintley be purchasing some soon, so i dont know the size. So I am going to have a section where i can put my rack units.

Hope someone can help!

19 inches wide, I forget the dimension of 1Unit... though we all speak of 1U 2U 5U high.

Interesting conquistore. Bloody expensive though! Im making mine out of that soft fibre MDF (i think its called that) where its smooth, Then if i wanted i could paint it black!

When it comes to monitors, is it better for the monitors to be on their own stand, or can i just place my monitors on raised sections on my desk? Is there really much diffference? Its not for a commercial studio or anything, just for a little home studio for mainly electronic music production.

So the units are 19" wide, therefore needa gap of 19" then. Im planning to make the desk for £50 - £60, not $1,900 lol Razz

Yep they are expensive.

I think its always better to get your stuff built or build them yourself - cheaper and you get what you exactly want.

I prefer the monitors placed on stands. If you are placing them on your table, see that you give it some isolation.. Maybe, something like Auralex MoPads? But I have no idea whether they actually do anything..

hey just a little update. Been working at my sales job (to pay for all my music equipment..) and been so busy with that i havent got lots done.

But i went and purchased two big sheets of 18mm MDF. 2.4 x 1.2 m Then using squared paper, i was able to desgn the desk i wanted, and then worked out the cuts for my desk to best maximise the sheet, without wasting much. So i did all that. Got the jigsaw out and have done all the cuts. So tommorrow its a matter of putting it all together! Using dowls, and screws and if need be sum angle brackets for extra support. My custom desk is an L shape, Left side below will be space for rack units. then on right side i have shelf below for lots of "crap. above i am raising the speakers on a raised section that will not effect the desk space that much and get them at good ear height. The right sidfe of the desk will be where my keyboard will go.

So far it loooks all good on paper and i have done the majority of all the cuts. I just hope it comes together tomorrow lol. I will post a little pic of my dodgy D.I.Y job once im done! Smile
