M-Audio BX8 Monitors  Reply with quote

Has anyone any experience or own a pair of these?

http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/flypage/product_id/1252

Thinking of purchasing them. Cant really aford to spend much more. I will be mainly using them for electronic music production and for mixing recordings of small bands.

EDIT;

Just one more question. Not sure exactly what cable im after. Going to be running the output from my Mbox atm. Therefore i presume I am after a Stereo 1/4" jack (to come out of the rear headphone socket) that splits in to two jacks, one left and right? Just im a little confused as the specs for that speaker monitor say it is TRS connections. ?

TRS connection  Reply with quote

Haven't tried them so can't really comment on how they are - specifications are not very helpful when it comes to monitors!!

The monitors require a BALANCED signal with a TRS (Tip, Ring, Sleeve) connection. So you would have to connect them to the main outputs of your M-Box (output 1 goes to the left loudspeaker and output 2 goes to the right loudspeaker).

So yeah you would use a 1/4th" jacks, which has two rings on them (a TRS jack)..

Yeah, spefications dont help much for monitors. I have been reading all over the net for reviews on them. I know FutureMusic magazine rated the BX5's highly in the blind monitor test. Quite alot of reviewers have rated highly. Seems a good option at the moment. I am trying to source a pair locally to have a listen to them. But quite difficult !

Thanks. I eventually worked out i needed two 1/4" TRS jacks, after i found a PDF manual on the net. Smile

Hi, I'm new to this forum but I noticed this post abuot the M-Audio BX8 monitors... I have owned and used a pair of these for nearly 2 years. I have found them to be very accurate and great sounding.(at the moment I'm listening to Led Zepplin's remasters rain song...awesome!) I have found that they need a little space to develop and you can be too close, but given some room they represent mixes from my studio to other sound sources very well. Hope this is of some help...RC-

Yes i got a set. I am very impressed with them.

I have been using HI-FI speakers for a long time now, and I have been used to them, and have done pretty reasonable mixes, but i always used to finish my mixes in the studio which has the mackies. Now I am pleased with these.

What I have really noticed is the poor sound quality of MP3s, that i never really noticed with my old speakers! Amazing really.
