Frequency and Audio Spectrum In Mixing  Reply with quote

Im still workin on gettin my mixing skills to where i want them to be. i read an artical i found about mixing and filling what "they" call the audio spectrum. They said is should be around 30hz-18hz. Does that sound right? I use FL Studio 6 to produce alot of my music, is it possible to moniter the music and make sure its mixed the way i want in my songs(bass, drums, percussion, ect...) using a db meter for all of my tracks? If not can anyone give me a helpin hand?? Thank you

No that is not correct.

The term audio spectrum IS correct though the frequency range in which our ears operate is in fact taken to be:

20 Hertz to 20 Kilo Hertz.

20 Hz to 20kHz

Your second part of the question is about using your ears, there is no "correct" way, if it sounds correct to you then it is.

Well like it's alreasy been said...the audible frequency spectrum is between 20Hz to 20KHz. As far as mixing with a meter in your hand goes......well, that's a very questionable technique you know. And you don't need meters and other fancy gadegetry to tell you if your mix sounds right or not. You've been gifted with two wondeful gadgets - your ears. Make use of them and remember meters will only give you a very objective view of your mix, they can't "feel" music. Fortunately we can, so if it feels right then it is right!
