A Different Recording Problem  Reply with quote

I had a cheap Emachine computer and plugged my mic in the mic plugin and used cool edit 2.0 to record my vocals and everything was ok. I didnt have any sound card or anything extra added on to it. I just bought a new compaq presario and i cant record anything. When i talk into the mic it only comes out of the left speaker and it only records and plays back mono. I tried gettin a new 1/8 inch addapter, i tried changing the settins on my sound options and with Realtek HD Audio Manager, I called customer support and they didnt help. I dont know what to do. Can anyone help me out so i can finish recording my newest project? If any more info is need let me know.

Well it's a strange problem. But there's just one thing........your saying that the computer records and plays back only mono. By saying mono do you mean that since the sound is only comming out of one speaker you've assumed it's mono?......Cause if that's the case then you are mistaken. Have you checked speaker leads and other hardware?......There could be some problems with yous conncetion or something similar. Wouldn't be able to tell you unless i actually saw what was happening exactly. And are you really sure about this whole mono thing?.....Cause it sounds tad dodgy to me!

Are you recording to a stereo track? If it is one mic, then it is mono. Recordign to a stereo track will prob mean it is recording to the left side only. Make sure you create a mono audio track to record to.

Ok on my old computer that was an Emachine i recorded my vocals on cool edit 2.0. I uses one mic and when i recorded it, it recorded both the left and right pans. The was one track and there were two waveforms, one for the left side and one for the right. Thats a stereo track right? Yeah well on this new computer i jus got it only records jus the left side and there is only one waveform on the track. even when i jus talk on the mic without recording it still only comes out of the left side and it didnt do that on my other computer. I dont have any addition hardware jus the software. i checked all the hookups with the mic and the speakers. I dunno if yall can help cool if not i figure it out eventually. thanks anyway

Sound card settings  Reply with quote

Check your sound card software settings. Look under the recording options and check if your input is panned to the left. Also check if the correct input source is selected - it could be on wave or sometimes even line in! These on board sound cards do have a lot of leakage..

Also look at the audio settings in Cool Edit..
