sound card problem?  Reply with quote

so i have a basic setup on a laptop. i can go into more detail if needed. anyway, when i record and playback simple guitar tracks, or just listen to music, i get a clipping or skipping occurence every 15-45 seconds or so. is this my shitty soundcard, or do i need more ram? or is it both?

Latency? Low speed disk? Low speed CPU? To much going on at the same time (playback/record, simultaneous programs, etc)? Swaps (little RAM)? Hard to say with so little data.

Literally you can't fix latency nor disk speed.
Either upgrade or optimize the system to work with the latency/speed you can achieve, but the later, optimizing, won't perform miracles, just minor, very minor, slight-speed tweeks (things like turning off anti-virus while record/playback, disconecting from net, not using other programs simultaneously, defragging the disk, increasing RAM, etc.).

Kind Regards,

audio app or media player?  Reply with quote

Are you facing this problem in a dedicated audio app (like wavelab, sonar, cubase?) or a media player (something like Winamp or iTunes?)?
