i've been wanting to make music for awhile but couldnt due to $. Now im starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel and can start getting some equipment/software. I'm comepletely new to all music software and im having a hard time choosing which music software to spend my time and money on. I want ease of use and the option to make professional quality music. Ive been to many websites..sony/acid...steinberg/cubase...etc etc. Is there software that does it all from start to mastering or is more than 1 software program usually needed. I have my eye on a cubase program but even cubase has around 4 different prefixed versions
What are the differences between Cubase4 and CubaseStudio..SL3..SE3 SX3 or wavelab studio 6 and groove agent 3? All are Steinberg but i dont know what the differences are because im so new.
I'm looking at all brands but ive been flooded with to many options and dont know how to pick the right one. My main goal is to make killer beats of course . I really am new to it all. I just ordered an sound engineering book for a home studio which should help me start out. I just dont want to choose the wrong program that will set me back months in savings if you know what i mean. |

Hi Steve, welcome to the ACF!
I'll answer to both your posts here. Yes, Cubase is a good option. Its got quite a quick learning curve and isnt too complex when it comes to both MIDI and audio. Its good for editing, recording and mixing too. So it is an all in the box software.
This is a feature comparision chart between SX, SL and LE
Comparision Chart
. I dont know if it will be much help for you.
Basically, SX is the complete Cubase package while SL and LE are cut down versions. I feel, if you have the budget you might as well go in for Cubase SX 4. No point buying SL or LE and then 'growing' past it after a while..
While there are other options like Pro Tools, Logic (mac) or Cakewalk Sonar - Cubase is a good options and is widely used. |

have to agree with Varun there, cubase has one of the easiest learning curves and has an impressive toolset especially with midi. i have had stability problems with it in the past but using older versions. the new SX4 is supposed to have some impressive improvements. _________________ If In Doubt...Hit It With a Hammer, If Still In Doubt...
