First of all..... sorry if i do sound cynical.....
Now getting to your problem....have you actually tried everything?.....it would be good if you could tell us the procedure you are following and what does "everything" you've tried consist of?......this could help people ascertain the problem if they find any mistakes in your operational procedures. For all you know it could be a very simple thing that isn't being done.
So....just run us through the steps you follow and it should be much easier......

Odd.

We'd need some info as Amit posted!

What interface, controller, VST and software (my guess is Cubase/Nuendo?) are you using?

thanks guys, well first things first......I'm using cubase LE with an M-audio oxygen controller. I'm trying to use a pianoteq plug in, which I've actually recorded with before about two weeks ago. I first checked all of my midi settings in the midi preferences, checked to make sure that cubase was recognizing the controller..made sure record was enabled, and all the correct in's(oxygen midi controller) and out's(pianoteq plugin) were being used...I checked to make sure the power was on in the vst intruments window...after which I tried different plugins, to make sure that it wasn't a problem with the plug in itself...I actually even tried opening a new project with just the one midi event to see if that would work...I tried restarting the computer even..the only thing I can think of that is any different from the last time I recorded with it, is the addition of frooty loops 6 which to my understanding is a midi based program. so maybe that changed something ..I'm really confused with it, the signal goes in gets processed by the plug in and comes back out into my monitors as it should, when I press the keys the volume levels are active...but it will not record, ...any help is much appreciated..

I just reinstalled the drivers for the midi controller, now it records but it doesn't come until about four measures too late.....when I tried to record again it came in about 8 measures too late.....it also almost sounds like it is playing it in reverse........lost!!!!

Try..  Reply with quote

If you are using XP, is service pack 2 installed?

If nothing works, go to device setup, then the Direct Music page and tick the "Use System Timestamp' box. If it is already ticked, then untick it and try recording.

Also try uninstalling all audio/midi drivers and all audio apps (Cubase, FL..etc), and then reinstalling them fresh.

I dont know if tis makes much sense - but try changing the USB cable too!

Does this happen only with VSTi's? Does it work fine if you dont have any VSTi's inserted?

well, first of all......I have xp media center (for now!!) it was on the pc when I bought it, I'm not sure if that has service pack 2. I'm going to switch to xp pro soon.....second, I don't have a "Use System Timestamp' box.....so there is nothing to tick.....i'll try the rest to see if they work........
