dselonke: hello
ben_audiocourses: ...and this is ben!
danworkmansr: Hi
Chris: Welcome to your courses, you are both at the same point in your course I believe.
dselonke: end of week 1
ben_audiocourses: yes both just given in week 1 answers
danworkmansr: I am in week 1
Chris: Superb.. well hopefully you will interact a little also, and start to get into some shared learning. That's always useful.
danworkmansr: I have ordered the book Sound and Recording. I always like to have resource material handy
Chris: That's a wise purchase..
ben_audiocourses: yes, a very good book
dselonke: I ordered it as well...it hasnt got here yet though
Chris: Good stuff, it is one of those books which will stand you in good stead and also, you'll find you often come back to it.
danworkmansr: I believe it is the fifth edition that I ordered as everywhere I went the 4th edition was out of print.
Chris: Those fact files are excellent.
Chris: The book does tend to expand a little wich each successive edition..
danworkmansr: I have never taken an online course before so this is new to me. I am one that can take a book and read it through and then pretty much go out and do it. My wife gets mad at me for being able to do this.
dselonke: lol im more of a hands-on learner..
ben_audiocourses: good, a mixture!
Chris: Well that's a great talent.. sounds like you may both help each other then.
Chris: It's great, as Ben says to have a good mixture of learning styles.
danworkmansr: I have a friend and his daughter that write their own country/country gospel songs and I will be working with them. I already have 13 songs of his that he has written and he has given me permission to use them.
ben_audiocourses: that will be good 'material' for you to work with and test out your new found knowledge
danworkmansr: My church has also given me permission to use their sound equipment as well.
ben_audiocourses: excellent
dselonke: I play my own music, so i will just mess around with it.
Chris: Great stuff.
Chris: For now I will leave you in Ben's capable hands....
Chris: I will return a little later.
dselonke: iv got a mixer, computer, and adobe audition, cubase LE, sony sound forge, and mics on the way
danworkmansr: I play drums, congos and etc and am now learning the bass guitar. I use to sing but about 6 years ago I lost my voice for four years and could do nothing but whisper. I have since had three operations on my throat and am back to par.
ben_audiocourses: so just for the benefit of each other, could you quickly knock out a couple of lines about yourself - where you are from etc
ben_audiocourses: ah you've both already started
ben_audiocourses: daniel - that sounds nasty (the throat problem)
dselonke: ya sorry to hear that
danworkmansr: I am 52 years old and married for 33 years (to the same woman) and have a son 31 who is a computer tech at St. Francis Hospital and a daughter who is 26 and a massage therapist. I live in Canton, Illinois and lived in Montana for six years.
ben_audiocourses: and david where are you based?
dselonke: wow i feel young...My name is David, I am 19 about 20, single but have been seeing someone for about a year now. I currently work as ISP tech support. Live in Glidden, IA, USA.
ben_audiocourses: is IA = Iowa?
dselonke: yes
ben_audiocourses: ok
ben_audiocourses: i'll talk briefly about the purpose of the weekly workshop
ben_audiocourses: this weekly meeting has several purposes, but first and foremost it is a place where we all meet up, chat, socialise to an extent etc
ben_audiocourses: we will usually cover a few topics as well but don't view this weekly meeting as a 2hr lecture or similiar
ben_audiocourses: distance learning obviously lacks the 'face to face' physical nature of 'traditional' education
danworkmansr: Yea, I started Bull Riding when I was 49 and on my 22 ride in 2003/2004 I took a bad spill and while getting up the bull hit me from behind and threw me into the air and I came down across his back. The clowns got the bull out of the areana and helped me to my feet and walked me out of the areana. I new I had a dislocated shoulder and a few broken ribs. I stayed and watched the rodeo for about an hour and then told my wife to drive me to walmart to get some wrap for my ribs. We ended up talking with friends for about an hour and then I tapped my wife on the shoulder and told her I couldn't breath. She rushed me to the hospital and I found out that I broke every rib on the right side in multiple places and broke my collar bone and shoulder blade, dislocated my right shoulder and punctured
danworkmansr: lung and collapsed it. If you ask me if I would do it again I would say YEP!
ben_audiocourses: ouch #:-S
danworkmansr: Sounds good
dselonke: wow...but at least you dont give up.
danworkmansr: 49 year olds don't heal near as fast as 20 year olds.
ben_audiocourses: as the weeks progress you will also see other students in the workshops, some of whom may be taking the same course as you and others who are taking other courses - it's a great way to meet similiar minded people who are also learning
ben_audiocourses: now i got both of your answers through this week
danworkmansr: Meeting people from other parts of the world may be more beneficial then just meeting people close to you. You could learn different music as well as different techniques.
ben_audiocourses: absolutely daniel
ben_audiocourses: and we have had students from all over the world in the last few years all with different stories to tell and experience
ben_audiocourses: it can be quite a melting pot
ben_audiocourses:
ben_audiocourses: now for your weekly questions
ben_audiocourses: ...
ben_audiocourses: i got both of your sets of answers
ben_audiocourses: daniel - recieved yours just before the workshop
danworkmansr: I am mainly into gospel music as I am the Head of the Media Team here at our church and we are just getting into live streaming (webcasting) of our sunday morning services.
ben_audiocourses: david - received yours yesterday
danworkmansr: Yea, I was gone on the road for 18 hours yesterday delivering a truck out of state and forgot to send it last night.
ben_audiocourses: it may be beneficial to agree on which day we should give them in
ben_audiocourses: either the day before the workshop (so i can mark the work and send you feedback in time for the sun workshop)
danworkmansr: I am home every night and on saturday and sunday.
ben_audiocourses: or the day after the workshop (so you can ask any last minute questions)
danworkmansr: Saturday would be fine.
dselonke: saturday
dselonke: would be best for me
ben_audiocourses: ok thats great - so in future weeks by time the workshop comes you will have both received your marked work so we can discuss it without 'spoiling' it for the other
danworkmansr: Sounds good to me
ben_audiocourses: great
ben_audiocourses: so how did you both find the first weeks questions?
dselonke: well, i didnt expect getting into physics stuff lol
ben_audiocourses: hehe
danworkmansr: Did a lot of searching.
danworkmansr: I have worked with sound equipment over the years but thought I'd better get the proper knowledge
ben_audiocourses: yes it really helps getting the 'fundamentals' of what is going on under the hood so to speak
ben_audiocourses: week 1 is the most 'scientific'
dselonke: a lot of it reminded me of one of the classes i took in highschool
danworkmansr: I have taken peek previews of what is coming up in the following weeks and it sounds interesting.
ben_audiocourses: yes there is a lot of good stuff to look forward to
danworkmansr: Need the basics though
ben_audiocourses:
ben_audiocourses: once the basics are in place everythng fits together like a jigsaw
ben_audiocourses: at least hopefully lol
danworkmansr: The only one I didn't really get much info on was the mina points of auditory perception.
dselonke: mina? i assumed that was supposed to be minor
ben_audiocourses: daniel - i'll cover that in my marked reply to your answers
danworkmansr: I did take physics in High School
danworkmansr: It was spelled mina in the questions.
dselonke: ya i know
danworkmansr: It kind of through me off when I looked up the meaning. LOL
ben_audiocourses: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/mina
dselonke: lol
danworkmansr: I kindof figured it meant minor.
ben_audiocourses: looks like we have the greeks and asians to thank for the 'mina'
danworkmansr: YEP, their money system
dselonke: wow, there are lots of meanings to that
ben_audiocourses: obviously the one about birds isn't much use to us
dselonke: really?
dselonke: lol
dselonke: jk
ben_audiocourses: hehe
dselonke: auditory perception reminded me of the superhero daredevil...he was blind but when it rains he hears all the raindrops bouncing off of stuff so he can get a picture of where he is
danworkmansr: Well, week two should start getting interesting learning about mics and etc.
danworkmansr: I remember that one LOL
ben_audiocourses: haha - thats a bit like sonar or similiar
dselonke: ya...Bats
danworkmansr: I have friends who are blind and they can hear the slightest sounds.
ben_audiocourses: must've been an american thing though - don't think we got daredevil in england
dselonke: thats a classic...
ben_audiocourses: yes theres evidence to suggest that other senses pick up the slack when one or more senses are deprived
danworkmansr: That one goes way back
dselonke: daredevil was probably before me...
danworkmansr: It was, Now I'm telling my age. lol
ben_audiocourses: and theres a reasonable amount of good blind musicians also
danworkmansr: Ray Charles for one.
dselonke: thats what i was gunna say
dselonke: lol
ben_audiocourses: absolutely, ovbviously mr wonder
dselonke: ya
danworkmansr: Yep
ben_audiocourses: and lots of blues singers whose name begins with 'blind'
ben_audiocourses: !
ben_audiocourses:
ben_audiocourses: talking about the way the brain compensates for things....
danworkmansr: David, where in IA is Glidden?
dselonke: 2 hours west of desmoines
ben_audiocourses: ....this ties in nicely with the fundamental and harmonics question in your week 1 questions
danworkmansr: How is that?
ben_audiocourses: ever wondered how if you're listening to a little portable radio you can hear bass notes that the speaker is no way large enough to reproduce?
danworkmansr: Yep
dselonke: yes
ben_audiocourses: well this is a psychoacoustic 'trick'
danworkmansr: Explain
ben_audiocourses: as you both now know harmonics are multiples of the fundamental
danworkmansr: Yea
ben_audiocourses: so lets take the low E on a bass guitar
ben_audiocourses: 40Hz
ben_audiocourses: aprox
ben_audiocourses: so this will reproduce harmonics at 80,120,160,200,240,280 etc
ben_audiocourses: now a small speaker might only run down to 200Hz or so
ben_audiocourses: for instance
ben_audiocourses: so that will be able to produce some of the higher harmonics
ben_audiocourses: 240,280,320 etc
ben_audiocourses: now the brain is quite smart here, it can take in these related frequencies and 'construct' the missing notes by filling in the gaps
ben_audiocourses: so although we don't get the trouser shaking boom of a 40Hz note
ben_audiocourses: we can tell that the note is a low E
ben_audiocourses: although the speaker itself is not putting out the low E
ben_audiocourses: so this is why you find software and hardware bass 'enhancers'
ben_audiocourses: these can emphasise the harmonics of low frequency content so that material is more suited to smaller playback systems
dselonke: iv always wondered how those worked
danworkmansr: So that is why my cd player has a bass boost button.
ben_audiocourses: you may find alternative mixes of material that are more suited to smaller speakers - things like song based mobile phone ringtones for example
danworkmansr: I do know that bass will travel through walls and across air more than a high pitched sound. As I can hear my son coming from three blocks away in his truck. I can hear the boom boom boom
danworkmansr: LOL
ben_audiocourses: yes, bass travels very long distances
dselonke: i remember reading that
dselonke: bass travels farther
ben_audiocourses: bass is also hard to pinpoint directionality with
dselonke: or low freq
danworkmansr: If I have my bass turned up on my stereo I can hear the bass all the way over to my neibors house but not the higher sounds.
ben_audiocourses: yo may notice with home cinema systems that the sub-speaker does not have to be positioned as clinically as the other speakers
danworkmansr: And yes it is hard to tell which way it comes from
ben_audiocourses: daniel - you mentioned bass boost on stereos
danworkmansr: My surround sound bass speaker sits right in the middle of the room but at times you hear it as thought it is on your right or left or even behind you.
danworkmansr: Yea, I did
ben_audiocourses: theres a few reasons why many stereos have these buttons
ben_audiocourses: obviously partly people just like lots of bass
ben_audiocourses: but there are also physiological reasons
danworkmansr: And
ben_audiocourses: the human ear is not linear with all frequencies at all volumes
ben_audiocourses: at low volumes the ear is more receptive to 'mid' frequencies
ben_audiocourses: it is argued that this is probably due to us fine tuning our ears to understand speech easier etc
ben_audiocourses: but at lower volumes the mid appears louder than the bass and treble
ben_audiocourses: so if you are listening to music at a low level the bass (and to an extent the treble) may appear somewhat subdued
ben_audiocourses: so a bass boost can help fill out the low end without greatly increasing the overall level of the material
ben_audiocourses: however you may find at higher levels the bass boost button will have lesser effects, or even none
danworkmansr: Interesting
ben_audiocourses: as the ears response levels out
ben_audiocourses: if you are interested in this have a search for 'fletcher-munson curves'
danworkmansr: I will
ben_audiocourses: and 'phons'
ben_audiocourses: and also 'A-Weighting'
ben_audiocourses: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fletcher-munson_curve
ben_audiocourses: there is a nice graph there which shows the difference in the ears response as level increases
danworkmansr: I will check it out.
ben_audiocourses: due to this some studios tend to mix at a certain level where the ear is most 'accurate'
danworkmansr: Ok
dselonke: intresting
ben_audiocourses: psycho-acoustics is a truly fascinating subject! (at least to me! )
danworkmansr: I will have to do more checking on this subject. It does sound interesting.
ben_audiocourses: unfortunately the more you learn about sound the more of a geek you become lol!
danworkmansr: Well, I've been called worse. LOL:)
ben_audiocourses: i can't watch music on TV without checking out all the mics, positioning etc
ben_audiocourses: hahaha
dselonke: lol!
danworkmansr: I am really interested in recording live sound and mic positiong is interesting to me.
ben_audiocourses: oh yes, in live situations positioning of mics and monitors is absolutely critical
ben_audiocourses: understanding how to reject monitor feedback with the polar pattern of the mic etc
danworkmansr: When ever I go to a conference where they are live streaming I look at everything.
ben_audiocourses: hehe - i know the feeling
ben_audiocourses: when i go to see live music i like to position myself behind the engineer!
danworkmansr: I even go as far as taking pictures of where things are placed. Now is that a geek or is that a geek.
ben_audiocourses: i'm often 'willing' them into changing settings!
ben_audiocourses: daniel - you are an honouary audio geek!
danworkmansr: Thanks
dselonke: lol
ben_audiocourses: it pays to be geeky though!
danworkmansr: When I decide to lear something new I go all the way.
danworkmansr: learn
ben_audiocourses: that's good
danworkmansr: I spend time money and etc to learn as much as I can.
ben_audiocourses: sounds like you have a real thirst for knowledge!
dselonke: i dont go to live shows very often...but when i do im usually playing so i dont get to see the soundboard or anything
danworkmansr: Yep. I am always learning new things.
ben_audiocourses: david - do you play out live often?
danworkmansr: You should try going to one as a listener. You can pick up a whole new perspective.
ben_audiocourses: absolutely
dselonke: not since highschool, everyone went separate ways for college
danworkmansr: I usually shut my eyes and try to pick out each instrument and then listen to the different vocals. It is amazing what you hear.
ben_audiocourses: i played a gig last night and i find it really hard to relinquish my 'engineering hat'
danworkmansr: After doing a lot of sound mixing on the board I find it hard to get involved in a band as I want to engineer the sound for the best performance.
ben_audiocourses: all the time thinking (cut 100Hz, vocal sounds a bit harsh at 4.5kHz)
danworkmansr: I like to experiment and you have got me to thinking now.
ben_audiocourses: hehe - good
danworkmansr: My friend who Italked about earlier that writes songs, goes to hollywood every year for the musicians convention and he just went this past november and he has several people interested in his stuff, but he wants to work with me to see what we can put together.
ben_audiocourses: so are you planning on recording an EP or similiar?
danworkmansr: Yep
ben_audiocourses: so how do you plan to do this (at the moment)
danworkmansr: He is willing to go as I learn. He is in no big hurry. He is 54 and we are good friends so he wants to work with me.
ben_audiocourses: sounds good
ben_audiocourses: how about you david - you going to be recording yourself?
danworkmansr: My church is planning on eventually building a recording studio in their church
dselonke: for now, i have some other friends around here who i jam out with every now and then
dselonke: so we might get somthing together
ben_audiocourses: hope you do - practical experience can help loads
dselonke: the band i was in we recorded at a studio in iowa here
ben_audiocourses: nothing beats hands on
dselonke: and we got some hands on exp from that
dselonke: the engineer pretty much let us mix it ourselves, he was just there to give advise
dselonke: lol
ben_audiocourses: excellent!
danworkmansr: Our church worship team has some awesome instrumentalist and they want to add music to my friends songs.
ben_audiocourses: excellent - it's weird, we hear all about these hot worship bands etc but in the UK I don't think that kind of thing goes on as much - i understand it is a big scene, the church band thing
dselonke: i wish my church was more into the music...
danworkmansr: We have a keyboardist, a bass guitar player, three othe guitarists (one who plays a funky sound), a drummer who is awesome, a congo and bongo player who also is awesome, a sax player and a trumpet player.
dselonke: we have an organ and piano player, i used to play drums and our guitarist just moved away
danworkmansr: They play anything from the classic whorship songs to contemporary to christian rock.
danworkmansr: When we start live streaming I will share our streaming site with you so you can watch them play.
dselonke: awesome
ben_audiocourses: cool - chris is quite up on the live streaming thing so he will be interested in the tech side of that i'm sure
danworkmansr: I just got into live streaming about a year ago and have been studying many books on the subject. We should be ready to start sometime towards the end of Feb.
ben_audiocourses: guys can you excuse me for 2 mins - need to make a quick toilet visit
dselonke: lol np
danworkmansr: Yea
danworkmansr: I did mine before the start. LOL
dselonke: me too
ben_audiocourses: back
danworkmansr: I should know where Glidden is as I use to drive to council bluffs and then up 29 to 90 and across to Bozeman MT all the time.
ben_audiocourses: sorry, one of those 'got to go' moments
danworkmansr: That gets worse as you get older LOL
dselonke: LOL!
ben_audiocourses: haha
danworkmansr: They make a pill for that you know.
ben_audiocourses: hehe
ben_audiocourses: i think my problems probably came from the after show drink(s) last night
ben_audiocourses:
dselonke: lol
danworkmansr: That explains it.
danworkmansr: So Ben, where did you say you were from?
ben_audiocourses: i'm from the far south western tip of england
ben_audiocourses: county called cornwall
ben_audiocourses: mythical home of king arthur
ben_audiocourses: etc
ben_audiocourses: beautiful place, much poorer than most of the country
danworkmansr: I spent three years stationed in Mannhiem Germany and travelled a lot while there. I did get to visit London.
ben_audiocourses: but you get a good quality of life
ben_audiocourses: london is a law unto itself
dselonke: im still planning a eurotrip here in a couple years
ben_audiocourses: i only get there maybe once a year unless i'm gigging there
danworkmansr: I am a country boy and enjoy the simple things in life. I would be satisfied with just a log cabin in the mountains.
ben_audiocourses: europe is great - a lot of americans tend to like europe
dselonke: mountains are great, i have family in tennesse, so i go there alot
ben_audiocourses: hey, you're lucky you got mountains, theres a large hill near where i grew up that we used to call a mountain because it looks like a volcano - however it only takes 20 mins to 'scale' it
dselonke: lol
ben_audiocourses: i'd absolutely love to go to nashville
dselonke: sounds like the mountains in iowa
dselonke: ya my family has a musical background
danworkmansr: I am a computer graphics art designer and creat signs, banners, vehicle graphics and place photos on cups, plates and etc. I even make big wall murals. So I take a lot of scenery and wildlife photos.
danworkmansr: That is why I moved to Montana. I take two and three week backpack trips up into the mountains and take photos.
dselonke: koo
dselonke: l
ben_audiocourses: america fascinates me - i've only seen florida which is flat and swampy, but the sheer geographical diversity is mind blowing to someone from a small wet island!
danworkmansr: The tallest mountain I have scaled was 14,110 feet.
ben_audiocourses: america is more like a subcontinent
ben_audiocourses: thats a lot of feet!
danworkmansr: Granite Peak in Montana is the largest peak in MT and I have scaled it three times. It is almost 13,00 ft
ben_audiocourses: i live on a hill and i struggle to scale that with the shopping (or more so after a visit to the pub)
danworkmansr: I love to sit on a ledge or pinnacle and just sit and contemplate life, or watch the moose or other animals down below and sometimes take photos of them.
ben_audiocourses: sounds like a great place you live - i'm surrounded by seagulls rather than mooses
danworkmansr: I'll have to email some photos of the Mountains that I have taken.
dselonke: I took a picture in tennesse when i was visiting and i just took it off the side of the road and It won 2nd place at the iowa state fair
danworkmansr: I was a Tour Bus Driver in Montana for two years and know every national park out west. I use to take the Icedogs Hockey team from Bozeman Montana up into Ferni British Columbia, Canada and Fairbanks Alaska for hockey games
ben_audiocourses: lol - http://www.falmouth.tv/ - this is where i live and as you can see from the webcam images it is pitch black!
ben_audiocourses: where is montana relatively in the states?
danworkmansr: Great going Dave.
ben_audiocourses: very north in the centre?
danworkmansr: I'm looking at it now.
dselonke: the funniest thing is when the newyorkers come to iowa to take pictures of corn...
ben_audiocourses: a lot of corn in iowa?
dselonke: iowa is nothing but farming
dselonke: so ya
dselonke: and beans
ben_audiocourses: is iowa midwest?
dselonke: yes
ben_audiocourses: ok - quite flat then
dselonke: very
danworkmansr: We use to have new yorkers come out to hunt elk in Montana and end up shooting cows instead because they thought they were elk.
ben_audiocourses: lol
dselonke: LO!L
ben_audiocourses: good lord, don't they know the difference?
danworkmansr: I was charged once by an Elk. Now that was scary.
dselonke: i bet
ben_audiocourses: don't think i've ever seen an elk - are they like thinner mooses?
danworkmansr: We had one New York Youth Minister from the Bronx that was transferred to our church in Missouri and he didn't know what a cow patty was.
ben_audiocourses: what is a cow patty? a turd?
dselonke: lol...iv stepped in many of those
danworkmansr: they can weigh 500 to 700 pounds. I will send you a photo. A moose can weigh up to 2000 lbs
danworkmansr: Big ole fresh pile of cow crap. LOL
ben_audiocourses: 'welcome to the moose and elk information service'!
danworkmansr: LOL\
ben_audiocourses: haha - weird in england we call it a cow pat
ben_audiocourses: not a patty
ben_audiocourses: patty sounds kind of funny if you are used to cow pat
ben_audiocourses: !
danworkmansr: They do burn well. We use them for starting fires
danworkmansr: Buffalo chips are good fire starter too.
ben_audiocourses: such a variety of animal faeces you guys have!
danworkmansr: Well, thats America
ben_audiocourses: hehehe
dselonke: Cow pies...
danworkmansr: Send me your email address and I'll send you some pictures. You too Dave.
ben_audiocourses: is pie another word for 'poo'?
danworkmansr: I guess I alreay have yours Ben.
ben_audiocourses: daniel - ben@audiocourses.com
dselonke: depends how u use it
ben_audiocourses: yup
dselonke: dselonke@doomfaery.com
danworkmansr: Thanks
dselonke: like if u say apple pie...
dselonke: thats food
dselonke: not poo
ben_audiocourses: haha
ben_audiocourses: yeah i gathered that
ben_audiocourses:
danworkmansr: LOL
ben_audiocourses: didn't think apples poo-ed
ben_audiocourses: but a cow pie?
dselonke: well in america they do
dselonke: lol
dselonke: jk
danworkmansr: So what is the Great American Pie?
ben_audiocourses: ha
ben_audiocourses: great american pie?
dselonke: ?
ben_audiocourses: cherry?
dselonke: APPLE!
danworkmansr: I once had a friend of mine while at hunting camp make a mosse scat pie.
danworkmansr: A pie made from moose crap
ben_audiocourses: noooooooo
dselonke: eeww
ben_audiocourses: did he sample his own handiwork?
dselonke: lol
danworkmansr: You see every year we have a hunting camp we take turns cooking. When someone complained about the food he would have to take over. No one complained so he figured he would make that pie and see if he got any complaints. No one that ate a bite said a word but went and threw it up.
ben_audiocourses: :-& x 1 million
danworkmansr: Needless to say he ended up cooking the whole three weeks.
dselonke: im glad i wasnt on that trip
danworkmansr: I was about to kill hem.
danworkmansr: him
ben_audiocourses: hha
dselonke: i would starve
danworkmansr: It did kind of have a weird smell.
ben_audiocourses: i bet.......
dselonke: i wonder why
danworkmansr: It kind of looked like mince meat pie
ben_audiocourses: i bet it tasted like sh*t
ben_audiocourses: bad joke
dselonke: litterlay
danworkmansr: You betcha
danworkmansr: I don't eat anything at hunt camp unless I know what it is anymore.
ben_audiocourses: well, each year when a group of students finish we give them a name for the year - i think already you guys may be the 'moose pie cohort'
ben_audiocourses: sorry moose scat pie cohort
danworkmansr:
dselonke: lol
danworkmansr: That should peak some interst.
danworkmansr: interest
ben_audiocourses: hmm, maybe not the right kind of interest lol
ben_audiocourses:
ben_audiocourses: no thats a good name for you guys
danworkmansr: It will certianly leave them thinking
dselonke: ya
ben_audiocourses: it may leave them with a bad taste in their mouth
ben_audiocourses:
danworkmansr: )
ben_audiocourses: haha
danworkmansr: So how did we get on the subject of poop?
ben_audiocourses: hmmm
dselonke: cow pattys
ben_audiocourses: ah, shooting elk and cows -> cow patties
ben_audiocourses: it went downhill from there
ben_audiocourses: :-&
danworkmansr: So how can we incorporate poop into our sound class?
dselonke: lol
ben_audiocourses: i'll let you work that one out
danworkmansr: OK
ben_audiocourses: maybe a 5.1 production?
dselonke: LOL!
danworkmansr: It don't make much of a sound except when you step in it barefoot.
dselonke: all aquishy between the toes
danworkmansr: What kind of mic would I need
ben_audiocourses: small diapraghm capcitor in my opinion
danworkmansr: I'll have to try that and let you know how it turns out LOL
ben_audiocourses: we await your results!
danworkmansr: It'll have to be this summer though
ben_audiocourses: haha - when you do, you can post the audio on our audiocourses blog
ben_audiocourses: http://www.audiocourses.com/blog/
ben_audiocourses: i believe it can take audio blogs
danworkmansr: I'll do that

danworkmansr: You got to LOVE America.
dselonke:
ben_audiocourses: haha
ben_audiocourses: ok we're into the last 15mins
danworkmansr: Maybe one day audio courses can have a convention where everyone could come together and meet.
ben_audiocourses: daniel
ben_audiocourses: we are having one this year actually!
danworkmansr: Yea
danworkmansr: Where and when
ben_audiocourses: i believe it is amsterdam which is a long plane ride for you guys
ben_audiocourses: but i envisage that this will become a yearly event
danworkmansr: I visited Amsterdam for two weeks once.
dselonke: cant afford it yet...
ben_audiocourses: with differing places
danworkmansr: I would love to revisit it though, so maybe I could make it.
ben_audiocourses: we've had a lot of students from the states over the years so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that there may be one in the US in coming years
danworkmansr: That would be great.
ben_audiocourses: daniel - if you are at all interested contact chris for dates etc
dselonke: bring it to iowa! its liek right in the center of the us
danworkmansr: Will do.
ben_audiocourses: ha - the audiocourses iowa meetup
danworkmansr: That would be a good place.
ben_audiocourses: how about miami?
dselonke: florida...
danworkmansr: No, Montana
dselonke: Tennessee!
ben_audiocourses: yeah nashville would be pretty cool
danworkmansr: Have it i a big Log Lodge in the Mountains
ben_audiocourses: new orleans would've been great i imagine before katrina
dselonke: tennesse has them
ben_audiocourses: lodge in mountains sounds good
dselonke: iv stayed in cabins in the mountains
dselonke: plus its a musical state
dselonke: nashville anyway
danworkmansr: Nashville would be good.
ben_audiocourses: where's the most bluegrass music?
danworkmansr: Nashville, Kentucky and North arolina
danworkmansr: Carolina
dselonke: my uncle was in a famous christian bluegrass band
dselonke: but he passed away now..
ben_audiocourses: i really like some of the bluegrass stuff
danworkmansr: I Love Bluegrass
ben_audiocourses: yeah bluegrass rules, i hope to learn banjo this year actually
danworkmansr: I could listen to it all day and not get tired of it.
ben_audiocourses: bluegrass ain't very big in england though
danworkmansr: That is one instrument I would like to learn. Also the steel guitar
ben_audiocourses: yeah, lap or pedal steel sound great
danworkmansr: We have huge blugrass festavals here
ben_audiocourses: my father in law has a 6 string lap which sounds great
ben_audiocourses: where are the big bluegrass festivals?
danworkmansr: We have some here in Illinois but they are all over.
ben_audiocourses: i got to get to a bluegrass festival one day
danworkmansr: they have the National Bluegrass open in Colorado and Utah
ben_audiocourses: theres one in cornwall but it just ain't the same
danworkmansr: I would like to hear the english version of bluegrass. Is it pretty different?
ben_audiocourses: to be honest i think we just copy the american style - i know that in central europe they have a kind of variation
ben_audiocourses: seems to be some good bluegrass outfits from czech republic etc
ben_audiocourses: i like the old school appalachian mountains stuff myself
danworkmansr: I have been looking at the gallery of photos from your website. Some beautifull places.
ben_audiocourses: yes cornwall is very beautiful, very rugged and dramatic in places
danworkmansr: No better place to go than West Virginia or Virginia
ben_audiocourses: i'm going to the states later in the year - if i get time i may try to fit in a trip to nashville but i think i'll have to leave it to a dedicated 'bluegrass trip' sometime
danworkmansr: To listen to Bluegrass you need to visit the little out of the way towns and the hill people. They have some fantastic times of playing.
ben_audiocourses: yeah i bet
danworkmansr: We have times throughout the year where we have jam session with bluegrass here where I live and it is great.
ben_audiocourses: is it true that most bluegrass guitarists play martin guitars? i've heard that a few times
danworkmansr: Some of them places kind of remind you of the movie "Deliverance"
ben_audiocourses: haha
danworkmansr: From what I have seen, yes
ben_audiocourses: anyhow guys, it is 9pm here now
danworkmansr: My dad use to play the mandolin. I also like listening to dulcimers.
ben_audiocourses: my mom has a hammered dulcimer
dselonke: its only 2pm here
ben_audiocourses: hehe
ben_audiocourses: you pesky americans!
danworkmansr: We have a regular dulcimer but my mother in law has a hammered one.
ben_audiocourses: anyhow guys, it has been great to meet you both - its been good fun
ben_audiocourses: despite the scat!
