At present it is Mac OS X and Linux only but the developers say they are working on a Windows version.
It certainly looks promising and the fact that it is open source leaves it open to plenty of 3rd party modifications like the Mozilla project.
I'd suggest that ultimately we may see a DAW that comes complete with it's own efficient, albeit heavily stripped down, Operating System (probably un/linuxix based) that you'd just install onto a fresh partition. This would offer greater stability and use less system resources.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hi Ben!
I'm been wanting to try this for a looong time but haven't gotten to it yet. I was thinking of running it using X11 and Jack OS. I think I'll give it a shot today if the studio is free.
It would be great if we could have a stripped down OS for Audio. Imagine how much better our systems would run? Maybe it could help in tackling piracy too. But companies like Waves and Steinberg need to have better policies first.

Ardour
I've spent the past hour or so trying out Ardour. Quite nice! Very straight forward in its design and very quick in response and light on the computer. But Jack OSX seems to be having problems with the Digidesign CoreAudio client. Ardour kept crashing whenever I tried to specify inputs/outputs. It also popped up errors saying it could not connect to the Digi Hardware.
So I had to run it off the internal sound card and unfortunately use headphones. But it worked really smooth! Seems like things can be executed quickly with its interface.
I'd really like to try it on Linux because though. And i also wish it looked better - a bit used to things looking great on a Mac!
But quite nice for an open source project - especially one that does not have a constant flow of funds!

It appears that SSL and Harrison have both struck R&D deals with Ardour and have been contributing financially towards the research which is quite an interesting development.
