Explain more  Reply with quote

Hi Arabianstyle

can you give us some more information please so we can help.

which keyboard, soundcard, midi interface and version of FL studio are you using?

also how are you connecting the keyboard and do you have all the correct drivers installed?

just talk us through step by step what you have done.

welcome to ACF+
-Paul

SoundCard  Reply with quote

The soundcard is the card in your computer that converts digital signals inside your computer into audio. it may be built in to your computer on the motherboard, connected to a PCI port of externally via USB or Firewire. this is what you connect your speakers/headphones to.

first thing, ensure the midi cables are the right way, i.e. in is going to out and out to in. i dont mean to patronise you, its just easy to do by mistake.

have you installed the drivers for your midi interface? does the indicator light up to show it is connected, and do you see a light flashing when you press a key on the keyboard?

midi & usb...  Reply with quote

now i'm not sure if you need both the midi cables and the usb cables hooked up at the same time...

but go to the midi settings on FL and make sure you have the specific midi controller you're using selected. it should automatically show it on the midi settings (the name of your keyboard). also like wailing said, make sure you have installed the drivers for your midi board.

another thing is, if you start fl and then turn your keyboard on, it won't recognize it. make sure your keyboard/midi keyboard is on BEFORE you start up fl

hope that helps out some

yep yep

controller type  Reply with quote

FL has some presets for certain types of midi controllers. if you don't see the name of your controller on the list, then don't worry about that. just use "generic controller". as far as recording in FL, you would have to click the record button up top and then press play. whatever you play will record on the channel that you have selected. also, in the midi settings, do not highlight "record to step sequencer" . you'll only be able to record 16th notes on the step sequencer and only one note at a time.

for a lot more info on this, go to www.warbeats.com

it's free to join and they have a lot of tutorials on there as far as using the midi controller in fruityloops.
