I have a good ear for making my music production sound nice
i scratch alot and get that to sound good too usually just experimenting
my friend usually request i lay my vocals down flat before i send him them to edit/master
once i had used slight fx and they came out so tit
then last time i sent em bare and they sounded no change
i don't know what the deal is
he claimed he used adobe which i'm fairly familiar with
but i cant get him to reveal his secrets for me
even if you use something else and give me the names of the process(ors) and effects you use i can find em
i'm not concerned with my external recording part because i have seen them turned into amazingly crisp sound which was said to be done with programs
i got a bunch of hardware too, but i got a few programs
it is possible, and i'm sure by messing around i may even stumble upon my own golden path
uv korse i'll change it up a bit from time to time
there has to be some simple str8 forward steps in getting them sound nice
all the answers in here are 1 re-post with links and opinions
anybody gott some 1,2,3.. advice

| EQ Compression Reverb |

Looking at it stepwise:
1- A good vocalist with a good sense of pitch and dynamics.
2- A decent microphone (condensors preferably) going through a nice sounding preamp.
3- Equalization/Compression pre recording..if required/preferred.
4- Equalisation. Even software EQs have a certain character of their own. listen carefully and make necessary changes.
5- Compression - very important in getting 'that sound' - the trick lies in setting the attack and release times right.
6- Reverb. Reverb can tame your sound and give it that "round-ness"
7- Additional tricks like haronizing (simulated or real), double/triple takes, pseudo stereo techniques, doubling sounds (with time and pitch differences), and basically a good hand at editing.
Usually on voices I end up using a multibrand compressor to tame the high and mid frequencies.
Also I use VocAlign to make make double takes/backing vocal takes sound tighter with the lead part.
The only rule in audio that cannot be broken - follow your ears and you'll get there!
I hope this makes much sense..I've hardly slept lately and my brain's in stanby mode! |
