A German Hi-Fi mag has recently published an article claiming that we can all be divided into either Fundamental Tone Hearers or Overtone Hearers

They argue that Fundamental Tone Hearers prefer melodic music and higher pitched instruments whilst Overtone Hearers prefer instruments with a richer timbre.

It's also claimed that Fundamental Tone Hearers are more critical of phase and time based relationships in audio whilst Overtone Hearers are more sympathetic to them.

The speech is in German so I will outline what you have to do:

You will hear 12 pairs of tones - listen to each pair and write down whether you think the second tone in each pair increases or decreases in pitch.
