We will be installing a new system.. (be jealous - the new Mackie Onyx 80 48 channel mixer and Meyer speakers Razz )

and would like to know the following.. coz I can't remember..

Do I need to plug from the amp into a DI and then into the system?

or can I just go from the amp into the system without routing through a DI?

Welcome to ACF+!

What amps are you using? Do they have line/DI outs?

D.I. Link out  Reply with quote

Hi Josh,

as you are using external effects pedals and so presumably not the built in effects of the amps, i would suggest getting a decent DI box and plugging your FX pedal output into the DI box, then use the link out of D.I to go into amp input.

although it sounds like you are using a large scale system, so why not mic the cabinets? always gives the best sound imo.

P.s. Which meyer cabinets are you buying? if its the top end stuff, seems kinda a shame to drive it with mackie. nothing against mackie they make great gear, but youll be spending 20k a box for good meyer stuff. then driving it with a 3k mixer.

we're not sure what Meyer speakers we're buying yet - its all just a work in progress, at this stage. I'll only be with the church in about 5 months. At this stage, I'm only doing the research, etc.

The Mackie 4880 Onyx series if i remember correctly, is costing in the vicinity of $6000 - $6500.

something like that. Its been a while since i looked at the figures.

How about the 1's and 0's  Reply with quote

Allen & Heath are my preferred analogue consoles until you get up to Midas, i just love the layout, they are so much more sensible than Soundcraft.

Have you considered digital?

i worked with a Yamaha digital today actually.. very good.. i was quite amazed at all the things this mixer has..

but.

for live, in the venue mixing, i prefer analogue because of the fact that if something goes wrong.. i dont want to have to press a whole lot of buttons to get to the place so i can fix it. I want it to be all there, so i can quickly isolate the problem and rectify it.
