when i record a note and then i press play to hear what i record it gives me something different to what i recoreded

MIDI Routing?
I take it you mean playing in MIDI.
make sure you arent routing you're midi input to more than one track and that u dont have any unusual synths or plugins on the track. when recording you are best to just use the basic General Midi (GM) sounds. _________________ If In Doubt...Hit It With a Hammer, If Still In Doubt... What you should be looking at is your "output "....check to which VST etc this is routed and like it's already been pointed out to you check for plugins and things like that. You would find the plugins (if present) on the "inserts" section on the software your using. hope this helps.
