How is this base made !?!?!?!?! [Hardstyle Techno Genre]  Reply with quote

Hello there, I want to talk to you about a rare genre of electronica known as hardstyle (evolved from Techno).

Comonly heard in the genre is a unique base in which I have always wanted to create for use in my own 'hardstyle' productions. It is commonly heard in tracks of "Hardstyle" producers from Italy.
It is a myth that the base is created by 'reversing kicks' and adding distortion etc but i am not sure if this is correct. Others talk about messing with the envelope controlls in a synth or sidechaining basedrums, but again I am not sure.

If someone could tell me precisely how these bases are made i would be very gratefull

Here is a sample of the base ripped from various Hardstyle tracks:

it sounds like the attack part of the ADSR envelope is not instantaneous and it is probably set depending on tempo of song.

The sound is also distorted and i imagine a LPF is applied.
At a guess you could probably get near the sound with a square wave and maybe also a saw.

Equally some bass sounds reversed would sound similiar - obviously this is dependent on the quality of the sample you use in the first place.

i don't actually think it is a kick drum although i guess it would be possible to make a sound like that by distorting and reversing a kick drum.

i think it is a synth with at least one osc (possibly square wave) with the ADSR set with a slow-ish attack time.

if it was a reversed sample, it could be a sample of a bass synth sound (or as you state maybe a kick drum) just reversed and distorted.

how about maybe putting attack on a kickdrum from a sampler and then distorting it (instead of reversing a kick)

or maybe a kick with a bit of decay which is side chained?

although i think you are right about the ADSR Envelope (putting attack on a basedrum) because i have a samplepack of these sounds and they are called 'Attack Bases'

i am thinking the bases are most likely from synths though and my best option would be to find a kick preset in a synth and then put attack on, filter etc......

although i feel that the bases might have been layered what do you think about this?
