Spanish Guitar  Reply with quote

Hi deepthoughts,

i had a quick listen to 'spanish soup' and the guitar sound is very nice. how did you record it?

Only real qualm is the occasional tap heard on the guitar and a couple of clicks and pops. these should be really easy to edit out. some clicks may be due to botched edits so check your "zero crossing points" and add crossfades if needed. other than that a job well done.

Thanks wailingallycat for taking a listen and for your sound feedback,i recorded my older Martin D-28 guitar with a Hardware Digital Recorder using two Shure SM58's one positioned off axis to the sound hole and the other by the neck with a about 30% room reverb mixed with original sound, yes i do have to watch my playing technique a bit when it comes to those taps also i tried multiband compression and the restorative feature where you can remove clicks and a studio mastering reverb to give it a transparent sheen using Adobe 2.0 and taking some of the clicks out and that is where the clicks may have resulted from,so you are right about that, since the time i recorded that i have learned many more things about recording and now i just stick to recording with my computer because of all the options, thanks again!! deepthoughts

Clicks and Reverb  Reply with quote

Theres still a couple in there, its getting late now but ill see if i can give it a quick going over in pro tools tommorrow.

Have to say thats an excellent example of how recordings can be done with low budget mics such as the Sm58. And clever use of reverb, i never really noticed it was there, which is exactly what you need in music like this.

Theres just one area where its a little off, i think around 180-300hz or so, ill have a look at that in pro tools too and post it up for you to listen. or PM me with your email address and ill leave you to upload it yourself.

Thanks wailingallycat, yea i realized that there were just a couple of glitches still, yea i would appreciate if you post it with your edits with Pro tools,i have some fairly decent mics now, mainly i use the tube Aphex 460 condenser now,it's quite warm and i have the choice of 9 different patterns,i paid $300 for it,in some reviews it was compared to an older $1500 Telefunken can't think of the model but it had almost identical frequency response on a graph in comparison,it's got a nice tranformer with it,but can be a bit noisy, but can work with the right voice(s) deepthoughts Cool
