Love GarageBand but have a PC...any suggestions?  Reply with quote

Hi all. I'm new to the forum. I've been taking recording arts/digital music classes at my local community college. I've really enjoyed working with GarageBand in the lab on campus. Alas, my home computer is a PC, and last time I checked GarageBand was Mac-only. Can anyone recommend a similar program for PCs?

Thank you for your time!

Hmmm...

TBH Garageband is a very limited program, if you were wanting to purchase software, id definately suggest moving up into something a little more professional. take a look at FL Studio which is the closest thing really to garageband but its streaks ahead in what its capable of. theres most probably some demo productions on the website.

You may also want to take a look at Steinberg's 'Cubase' which is generally more expensive for the top version although they do cheaper cut down versions. worth a look anyway.

Sequel  Reply with quote

Do you by any chance own Apple Inc. stock Paul? Very Happy

Bootsof joy, you could also look at Steinberg's Sequel . Its new and although we havent heard much about it yet, it does look interesting.

But if you do want to get into serious music production, it would be a good idea to follow what wailingalleycat.aka.Paul suggested (the Mac isnt so necessary though, unless you own stock too Mr. Green )

I use Cakewalk Sonar. Although I still have version 3, I would happily upgrade if money weren't so tight right now (I think it's up to version 6). Even with 3, there are many useful features, plugins are plentiful, and VSTs are easy to work with. I put out good quality MP3s and CDs using this software.
