| Panning Question! |
|
|
Okay, I know all of this sounds like noob questions but...
How do you pan properly? When I try to pan using the left or right channel (trying to pan), it still sounds like it's in the center. I'm trying to pan some adlib vocals and an instrument. The vocals, at times, I'm trying to make them pan left or right or both. Maybe even sounding like they're coming from the rear. The same goes for the instrument (a synth) as well.
Thanks |

Welcome to ACF+ SeventhKnight!
Are you talking about a surround setup here? And are you trying to pan a single channel or multiple channels (stereo or more)?
To make something sound like iits coming directly from behind can be difficult to attain - it largely depends on the texture of the sound and if it is static or moving. This is because the brain can get very confused between sounds coming from behind and the front - even in real life. Thats why we have the tendency to move our head around to locate the source. |

I understand. I'm trying to make some ad lib vocals seem like they're coming from just the left side, right side, or in the rear.
Thanks

In Stereo. All of my individual tracks are in stereo. I have Cubase SX1.06
Thanks again!

You can't really pan stereo tracks, as they already have a stereo image with 2 sources. You can adjust the width of the image but panning doesn't really work properly on stereo.
Well as far as I am aware. |

Yes, but it is possible to change the position of your stereo image in the sound field - using a stereo dual panner (in Cubase/Nuendo right click the panner and chose the Stereo Dual Panner) or a dedicated imager plugin like the Waves S1. |
