basically this is what it is......i wanted to make a home studio in my basement so i went ahead and bought a Audio Techinca AT2020 Cardioid Condenser Microphone with the stand and pop filter, a presonus firebox and a brand new computer for multimedia running windows vista on it. In the room that i wanted to turn into a studio, i closed off a section with drywall so it looks like a small room where yuh kan go and record. I have done some recordings and they come out pretty clear but it doesnt sound professional because once i put it over a beat it sounds bold. i need all the tips on how to make it sound better n what i kan do before i put it over the beat ie. any effects or anything like that and i am currently doing all my recordings off sony acid pro 5. Is there a software that is better then this that i should get or is the okay for now??
Thanks |

What is it you are recording and what do u mean by bold? you'll need to go into more detail, does this mean its bass heavy?
Acid should be fine and the firebox is a decent unit. cant really help unless yu can explain the sound, or post up an audio clip so we can hear it. thats always the best option. |

you are asking the famous impossible question redrum.
there is no magic formula to make things sound good. learn how to use the basic EQ you have in your software and listen to the vocals. does it sound bassy? if so turn the bass down a little. does it sound sibilant (accentuated Sss sounds), if so try cut around 5-9khz by a couple dB. I cant give you any more advice without hearing the sound you are trying to correct.
Most important is to get it right at the start with mic placement, mic choice and so on. garbage in garbage out is the rule with audio, you start with a bad recording and no amount of processing will make it great.
use your ears not your eyes, if it sounds good to you, chances are it sounds good to other people too. |
