I keep hearing and reading that a compressor can help with de-essing for vocals. I still haven't found exactly how that works. Can anyone give me a clue as to exactly what happens or how (or both)? I am eternally grateful in advance to a direction in this regard.
Thanks
Ron

De-essing
You can indeed use a compressor for de-essing. Just put an EQ across the sidechain of the comp and boost the frequencies where the esses are most prominent (around 7k usually) and then use your ears and tweak for best results.

De-essing
Hey Paul,
Thanks for the info. I will give that a try very soon. I don't usually have the problem because I try to avoid that during tracking. except for some singers. I will deliberately do a vocal track and emphasize the esssses to see how it's done. Sounds easy enough, but since I've now said it sounds easy I will have fits with it. It certainly makes sense. I knew I coud get a reasonable brief explanation You're the best.
Cheers
Ron
