| mic recommendation for voice recording |
|
|
Hello,
I am looking for a good recommendation on voice mics. Currently I am responsible for our company's online education courses which involve extensive vocal recording, however, recently our old mic has been giving us issues. If the chord on the mic gets bumped or touched, it creates a loud tapping and crackling sound in the recording. I believe it's a rather cheap mic but the quality output has been very good for our purposes. I did go and buy a new mic, the Panasonic Noise Cancelling headphones (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7899722&type=product&id=1149206404858), however the audio sounded droned out and not as clear and crisp as the old mic. I believe this was due to the noise cancelling feature? I ended up returning it.
I just wanted to get some recommendations on a good voice mic that won't drone out the audio and provides good clear quality sound.
Thanks in advance! |

Which mic were you using previously? first of all it sounds like just a loose connection inside the microphone (assuming you have tried a different cable as it may well be the cable) and would be very easy to fix for anyone who knows how to use a soldering iron.
Before we recommend a mic we will need to know a price range and the sort of vocals you are using for. low male spoken word? soprano singer? |

I'm not exactly sure what the model is. I can probably find out next week as I am out of the office. All I know is that what we used before is ancient. We are using the mic for general speaking voices (male and female). There will be no musical vocals associated, this is purely for eductational purposes. What I'm looking for is a max price of $150 or lower (preferably) but the main issue is crystal clear quality. Look forward to the recommendations. Thanks much![/quote] |

| Condensor or Beta 58? |
|
|
Considering the mic is going to be used for voices a condensor microphone would definitely do you better. But the problem would be to find a decent condensor for your budget. There are a lot of mics available for around $100 but its hard to say how they'll end up sounding. If your budget stretched another $70 I would have suggested the Rode NT1A or something from SE Electronics or Oktava.
If your budget can't stretch then get a good dynamic mic (maybe the Shure Beta 58?) |

In your price range, take a look at the AT 2020. For about $100 (street price) you get a decent condenser mic and I've not yet heard any real complaints. In fact, most people like it in that price point. You would need phantom power though.
I agree that the Rode NT1A is a really nice mic, and very quiet. A good all-around, all purpose mic. The cost is a bit more, but I don't think you'd be disappointed. The Shure Beta 58 is another good choice. But for voice I would seriously have a listen to the Audio Technica 2020.
good luck! |
