I record my vocals myself. My mic stand is straight, does anyone notice a difference if you have the mic upside down or rightside up? |

| Mic Angle |

I would be more concerned about the angle of the microphone and its level in relation to your mouth. move it down to get a more airy nasally sound and up for a deeper more chesty sound (its the opposite to what common sense tells you due to the angle of the air leaving your mouth and nose).
also try angling the mic slightly off centre and boosting some HF to give it more air.
Usually hanging the microphone upside down is just an ergonomic or even aesthetic thing. it can sometimes give u more angle options due to the way the mic clip or shockmount is hinged at the stand. |

| Upside down mic placement |

I concur with WailingAlleyCat as far as the aesthetics/ergonomics of the upside down mic. He is absolutely correct that the important relationship is of the air from your mouth hitting the diaphragm, and the angle will/can affect the EQ. By changing the angle slightly, you may find you need no EQ at all with a little experimentation.
It’s a good call and great tip about singing ‘over’ or ‘under’ the mic. I don’t like to hang any mic upside down regardless of the mounting options. It’s a personal thing seeing a Neumann (or any mic) falling to the ground that scares the shit out of me. But, I know a guy who thinks it just looks cool. You should be able to get the same effect from the mic whether it’s upside down or right side up. If using just a clip though, I would go with right side up so the mic won’t slip out and crash to the ground. My U87 has a nasty dent on the grille because I tried to get ‘cute’ and did the upside down ‘trick’ tracking acoustic guitar. It may have looked cool, but made me look like a fool, and insulted my 87. Take care. |

Great feedback guys, thanks alot. I'll try that out...hmmm, I was wondering why the clip for my mic was adjustable so that it angled the microphone... |
