This may sound really stupid but how do I add a track? It won't record in multitrack view, and edit view...I can't figure out how to add a track so I can play along with what I recorded.

add a track as in import one or record one? tracks cant be imported into the edit view. to import on the multitrack view just right click and scroll to import .wav from file. to record just arm the track you plan on recording to make sure the input is set to the device your tracking off and hit record on the transport. hope this helps. peace.

Thank you. I have a different question.

I want to record from my music notation program, directly, internally, into Cool Editl, so it won't be a midi but an actual recording.

So, can I run a plug from the computer speaker output to the computer mic input?

Or, should I run a cord from the speaker output to the mic input?

Or, should I set the mic in front of the speakers?

Or...?

Shocked many questions lol. ok id start by saying dont worry about plugging anything into anything else. surely your notation software can export to .wav or some other recognised format? well lets say that it doesn't, you would basically do the same as if you wanted to record from a cd into CEP, In Cool Edit Pro's Edit View choose File > New (Ctrl+N) to create a new, empty waveform, then choose Options > Windows Recording Mixer. Make sure that the .wav or "what-you-hear" .etc (depending on your windows/ audio card) is selected for recording and that its level is set for a recording (not too soft and not too loud). Click on the Record button in Cool Edit Pro’s Transport Controls.
Start the desired track in your notation software. When the recording is complete, click on the Stop button for both the Transport and notation software controls.
Edit the recording (Normalize, Trim, etc.) as needed.

Hope this helps if you have any more problems just give me a shout.

Peace!
