stop me from blowing my brains out, help a newb...  Reply with quote

..hi,

I am a total Newb to music production, although I have been rappin' for a few years now.

I have borrowed my mates comp with Cubase SX 3 (not buying it myself, and not stealing it off net) while he's out of the country for a few months..so I can get some unique beats working..

Anyways, i've popped a USB Midi keyboard into the USB slot, the notification popped up that it was installed and ready to go (it's plug & play)..

..Anyhoo, when I go into Device Setup -> All midi inputs the usb audio device is not showing up there...this means I can't select it, and in turn this means I don't have any method of MIDI input.

I've been looking on internet for 2 hours searching for help, i'm totally stressed now..any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Dodge

Keyboard drivers  Reply with quote

Hi dodge.

first thing to do is go on the manufacturers website and download the latest drivers for your keyboard. Plug and play is just generic windows drivers which very rarely work with 'pro' software.

Once that is done you need to go into the options/preferences menu (not sure exactly what steinberg call it) of cubase and there will be a midi section where u can hopefully select your keyboard.

give that a go and get back to us.

Hi mate, thanks for reply,

I sorted it out last night, I found out that Dual Core laptops don't come with the MPU-401 driver that makes your comp understand it's a midi controller.

So after about two hours searching the net I found a mpu-401 download that was compatible with my sound card and VOILA!!! it's blummin working..

Bloody Intel man...why you wouldn't inclde this and not tell anybody I don't know.

Thanks for your input mate.

Certainly, I went to the M-Audio website and downloaded the generic e-39 key midi controller Mpu-401 driver and it worked a treat, been making beats all day.

hope this helps.
