| NewB help - recording from microphone |
|
|
Hi
I am trying to record myself with my microphone in CuBase SX.
So I start a new 24 track audio project, but when I try to record - nothing happens.
The IN is set as "IN 1 L" which is the only opltion there, no microphone or anything...
any ideas?
thanks

Hi joe
i assume you are using a PC so firstly if you have a soundcard (and not an onboard card that came with the computer) update the drivers, if you do not have a soundcard and are just using onboard audio i suggest you get one.
go into the control panel in windows and ensure that the inputs are turned on and mic level is selected (it may say +20dB or something similar) you should be able to double check settings for the soundcard from inside cubase, but i am not a cubase expert so perhaps not.
ensure the track you are recording on to is 'Record Armed' it should show a Red dot on the left of the channel strip or a flashing red dot when dropped into record. Also it sounds silly but make sure the mic is turned on if it has a switch and/or that the pad switches are out.
If you still cant get it to work, we need to know which microphone and card you are using etc. as well as any other info about your setup that is relevant.

Hi
Thanks for the replies,
My soundcard is on-board.
My mictrophone is a 5$ external microphone (Connects to the little round orange hole in the back of my PC).
The microphone works on all other applications except cubase.

| ASIO |

Try installing ASIO drivers, the proprietary audio driver for steinberg.
I have never used it but you could try
Here
or search for ASIO and find one for your specific card |

| Gain |
|

Hi Joe
Could you tell us what the other softwares are? Maybe this Mic might need some gain at the input stage in Cubase (the Input channel on the mixer). Digital gain might not be the best option, but given the setup this is the only option you have.
And, as Paul has suggested, do install the ASIO for All driver as it makes a tremendous difference to Cubase when using an onboard sound interface. If you aren't too sure about how to enable the ASIO for All driver in Cubase post back and we'll help you out.
Cheers
