| Notebooks, Pentium that is. |

I want to begin the process of creating tracks and putting them together
and all of that. I have a PC at home that I don't use for music and
recording (I use for everything, but that!) Anyway, I'm interested in
purchasing a pentium notebook that has 30GB, 256MB, and DVD/CD-RW. What I want to know is does this sound like it is something worth purchasing for the kind of use I want to get out of it? and if so should I purchase something that'll upgrade the GB's and MB's? Any info is helpful. Thank you. |

Hi Jazie!!
I purchased a laptop to compliment my studio where I use other desktop computers to record with.So far I been working with it a lot!I primarly use this laptop for mobile recording going to schools to record bands and some choirs.I had to do a few things first before using it.
had to get a reliable external sound card(extigy-USB conn.)creative labs
A good starter music recording software that is easy to learn and operate
Magix audio studio 7 received 5 star ratings in Computer Music from UK
this software platform has very good book form instructions and on line help.
I have many recording platforms and for simple recording its a great starter at a very good price.
You can still record many tracks but only one at a time.
Now if you want to multi track record at once then I'll cost more with options which are available out there.
Also records in stereo.
Check out Computer music Magazine if its available in your area they have many articles and reviews on recording Whatever!!!
bye for now!

I recently inherited a Laptop. You mention DVD/CD-RW. I know that my laptop says tht on it, but it is only a DVD ROM. I currently have 256MB, but I am going to upgrade that to at least 512MB. .wav files can take up a lot of space on the hard drive, so you may want to look at a bigger hard drive, or an external one and just use the laptop one for portable stuff.
A seperate sound card is a must. A full duplex one would be recommendable. The clock on my laptop is quite poor, also, but this may be because it is an Acer, who are a cheaper end make. |
