So you want to learn About midi?

First) What is mpc2000 is that a computer?

Second)What kind of keyboard do you have roland/yamaha ect

Third) Is it a general midi /gs extended /xg yamaha

Please get back to me on this and I'll refer you to some Good sites.

Also your midi Keyboard should explain the basics for starting out.

I have 2 Yamaha keyboards 1 XG and 1 general midi
1 Casio general midi
You can also play midi from your computer if you have a decent sound card(most good quality cards support midi)

You can also get tone generators (mine are MU80 and FBo1 yamaha and 1 Honer
the list can go on and on with what you can add to your system.
i've been working with Midi since 79 and I still have lots to learn. Its a fun experience but you will need a lot of patience because it does take time to learn.Today they have many books and sites out there so its not to bad.

bye for now!

http://www.gearpreview.com/music/sam/mpc2k.html

Check this site out for basic info on Aikai mpc2000

It is a sequencer/tone generator with 128 gm voices.

You tell me you have Yamaha have you a model number.

Check the back of your units keyboard should have a 5 pin midi in and 1 more out.

check your mpc2000 it should have something similar.

You need 1 cable for now a music store will have a 5 pin midi cable.dont skimp on lthe quality because you'll be frustrated with stray signals. Most music stores carry good ones.Myself since I purchased midi cables with MIDI print on cable I,ve never had a problem.

You say you should'nt need cakewalk. It depends how deep you want to get involved.I know on my keyboards that yes I can record/edit /save to disk. but with a Workstation (computer) available it makes things happening a lot quicker and more interesting.I also use many programs like Cakewalk. They all have their good points and bad ones.Just getting your keyboard and mpc2000 to work will keep you busy for a bit.Hope you have books or manuals cause you'll need them.Good luck!!

bye for now!

Mike

What are you trying to do?  Reply with quote

I use an MPC 2000xl and a few keyboards for my production, what exactly do you want to do? If it's just recording music and drum tracks then just hook it up. Both MIDI's and start recording. I use it everyday so just holla at me!!
