| What are your most indespenceable plug-in's or effects? |

I was curious as to what plug-ins and effects you felt were most necessary for using your audio software.
Best Loved:
Sonic Timeworks CompressorX - it sounds so clean and can pretty much fulfill all my compression needs. It runs with an internal 64 bit floating point and still leave plenty of CPU. I sometimes run a 2 or more compressors in the signal chain in order to minimize how obvious the compression is, while boosting the loudness. Sounds great and adds no noise to the signal.
Sonic Timeworks Equalizer - 8-band parametric EQ, and 31-band Real Time Analyzer. It also has a phase meter to help you sort out phasing prolems, which is very cool. It has two selections between clean and vintage, and yes there is a noticeable difference, and also the Q is variable in vintage and more constant in clean. There is no phase distortion when you run through the EQ but at the same time it is a great sounding EQ, and very versital. I use the visual mode to set most things as I am listening, and then can monitor where there is low activity, and where there is high activity and then fine tune the sound to the way I want it.
I want:
Antares Auto-Tune: It fixes all those people who sing off key, and they guitar player that can't seem to keep it in tune. Well, it is not perfect, but you can operate in real-time to fix some things.
BBE Sonic Maximizer Plug-In: I have a 862 in my rack that I use for live sound and sometimes when I can't fix things with EQ, a little bit of the process knob can clarify and and bring out the character of a channel or mix. |

I use the Waves plug-ins.They are really good,I especially like the Ultramaximiser (L2 I think?).Since I've had them(got all 4 bundles!)I find little use for any other effects.
Sonic maximizer is pretty good for adding that extra sparkle but I couldn't get on with compressor x that you mentioned.I tried to use it for a college project(didnt have waves then)and I was not pleased with the results.
Steinberg warp is good ,but does have a 'nasty' digital sound to it .
Its about time someone wrote a more realistic 'analogue-esqe' mastering plug-in(s).Thats what I want.I always feel that anything I produce on the PC always sounds 'clinically' digital whatever plug-ins I use.Does anyone else have this problem?

Will,
have you tried T-Racks Mastering software?
http://www.t-racks.com/
T-Racks is essentially an emulation of an analogue mastering suite, and is considered one of the better emulations.
Even using the softclip option in VST dynamics can help fatten up the sound and take away those 'brittle edges'.
Also look at the PSP plug-ins.
Cheers,
