| MOTU 896 interface problem |
|
|
i am using a MOTU 896 as an interface to my pc. it works great with one exception. you can only monitor (live) two inputs at one time while recording. i'd like to be able to hear all 8 inputs at once and have the ability to change the monitor levels of each input without changing its recording level.
i know that the new MOTU 896 HD has this capability..... however, i'd like to see if there is a solution short of selling what i have and buying the new model. i've looked into some mixing boards but found that they (ones under $1,500) have only 4 sends. i need 8 to match my input device. is there a mixing board, or line mixer that can do what i want. i've had no luck in my searches.

have you checked out the Behringer site they have some units that might help.I have a Motu 24 i/o and use a Behringer mx 9000 that lets me monitor all 24 channels at once.

Well it depends on your situation. If you have all tracks armed in your computer sequencer you can set each tracks out to the main outs.
Or you can use an outboard mixer. I have a Yamaha MX 12/4 which works wonders for me. You can check out www.yamaha.com or mackie at www.mackie.com for some inexpensive analog mixers |

I have the Motu 24 I/O and use mx 9000 mixing desk
It took some time to get it working fine.I use magix music studio 2004 deluxe. To use it with Motu you will receive sodtware to interface to your computer.
I suggest no less then a Pentium 4.anything else it tends to have a mind of its own.
You have to understand that when the 24 I/o Was designed it a Mac base platform in mind.It evens comes with an audio platform for mac.For it to work with Pentium 4 you need ASIO on your unit.
The program from magix that I use is a reduced version of Samplitude.
You can download both demo versions.Mine will only record 16 mono tracks at once as for samplitude will record over 48 trks at one shot.
Both programs are identical except for the tracks.
As for the berinhger mx9ooo nice unit it has true 24 in and out but has 48 channels via an A/B switch.
The first 24 channels have their own gain but the remainder dont work the same way because they don't have their own outs. The manual for the Mx9000 is on their website.
I personaly like it.It does what I want it for .It is a exact copy of a Mackie desk at much less the cost.I've used both In both studios and I see no difference except for support.Beringher is there for you with quick responce and repair work if needed.I also have an Mx1904 desk 18 channel and this one I really like when I record live. The only drawback its not a true 18 channel in/out.
Anything else just write!!
bye

thanx mike,
i've got a mackie 24x8 in my A room and was thinking about moving that to the project studio and bringing in the MX9000/MOTU combo. was talking with my brother since my last post & he even suggested we not stop there but incorporate/mirror that for our live shows. so i'm glad to hear you're enjoying your setup that helps alot...
thanx again,
