| Pro Tools hardware question |

Hello,
I run a DAW with Cubase SX and I love it, it's great software. However I find it very hard to be able to take what I have done and go to a mastering facility with the tracks that I've done on Cubase because everybody still uses Pro Tools in the pro world it seems.
So, I'm seriously considering making the switch over to Pro Tools, but I can't seem to get a straight foward answer on the following.
Would I need to not only switch software, but hardware too? Would I be able to use my M-audio delta 1010 sound card with Pro Tools, or would I have to replace my hardware too in order to make this switch?
any info on this topic from the pro tools crowd would be great, and if any SX users out there know a way to take your files to a mastering engineer that would surly be welcomed too.

When you buy Pro Tools, you are buying the hardware/software package. You can't run Pro Tools software without some Digidesign hardware present. This means buying the M-Box or Digi 002 at a minimum.
I believe you will be able to run Cubase with your new Digi hardware, though someone correct me if I'm wrong. |

I believe when you start a project within Pro Tools, it gives you the option of having the project compatible with Cubase and others, so that you can transfer files between the various programs. A friend of mine uses Pro Tools LE 6.1 with MBOX. The MBOX is the soundcard. That's where your AD/DA converters are.

I wanted to see if this thread still had some life in it... did you ever make the switch to ProTools?

Hi Mike,
I also run Cubase SX with an Audiophile 24/96 (Delta) Soundcard.
I believe that when you switch to the Pro Tools software, you must also adopt the Pro Tools Hardware. If you go with MBOX, then that will be your soundcard now instead of the Delta Card. If your budget is deeper, then the Digi 01 or 02 will be your soundcard now. That hardware has all of the Digital Audio Converters built into it that your soundcard has. So, I am pretty sure that you will no longer have to use the Delta Card if you switch over to the new platform.

You can buy pro-tools M-Powered which will run on M-audio hardware. as far as i know, it has all the features of LE

Now, in the mastering world, you deal with stereo tracks. Before you go to a mastering facilirty yourr mix should be bounced to a stereo file. Mastering deals with ONLY the stereo file or surround sound etc. It does not deal with your multi-track session in cubase.
So I dont see any problems here. Maybe you mean something different? |
