Great Book  Reply with quote

Hi

I have just bought a new book called " Sound Reinforcement handbook " by Gary davis & Ralph Jones.

It is quite technical but easily on the level of most of the people using this site. It goes from basic terminology, through sound system design and some practical advice. It also gives a good definition of Logarithms and how they relate to sound.

It has become the bible for many sound engineers across the world, new and experienced.

I bought it for just over £13 (sterling) from www.amazon.co.uk

Take a look at it anyway.
I think it would be beneficial for this course but ill ask Chris what he thinks.

Yes it is one of the books we feature on the site already as it happens.

There are some reviews there.

Cheers

P.S. I updated your links so they pick up those reviews.

I looked over the reviews but didn't see a book that has a more advanced look at pro concert sound. I have owned the Yamaha book for several years and love it but i am looking for something that talks about large format consoles and mixing for large events.

Any suggestions?

Just wondering, I think im gonna buy this book, but it was released in 1990. Is the book bit out of date, or is it still worth it for principles etc? Also think I'm gonna get the Live sound reinfrorment book, they doing it as a pair on amazon.

The book is still useful even though its old, all the practical stuff it teaches are things like how to wire cables and equipment like graphic EQ's and Compressors where the principles haven't changed.

The book is all theory, it doesnt teach you how to run your specific equipment so in answer to your question, the book does not seem out of date and is very worthwhile.

Let us know what the Live Sound Reinforcement book is like.
