Really depends what level and where geographically speaking really.

If you are seeking a course in the UK there are many great courses at vaying levels from mere evening classes, covering the fundamentals of what a mic is and does, to full blown Masters level programmes covering high level engineering concepts.

In London you can do worse than the City & Guilds Sound Engineering run by Westminster College at Paddington Green. www.cwc.ac.uk I know those guys fairly well and although, as all colleges do, there is a bums on seats attitude, there are some great staff there! This would be suitable for entry and intermediate levels.

If you are looking for something a little different socially then you could check out the HND Sound Engineering & Multimedia Integration course. It is a HE course, leading to a possible degree, which is in the South West of England, details here: www.chrishambly.com/hnd.htm This would be suitable for intermediate to advanced in terms of academia, but of course there is NO substitute for real experience and reflection.

Of course there are lots of courses springing up all over the Uk these days and my advice is rather than be over zealous, take some time to research the course content and get a real understanding of what the outcomes of the course are. So often it is found that students apply for a course without really understanding what they need, or want.

Hi there!

I also think research is a very important thing before you start any course at all. There are such a lot of audio courses out there.....

But also remember that an audio course is absolutely no guarantee that you will find a job in a studio, if that is what you want to achieve with it....

I am an ex SAE student (School of Audio Engineering) and although I have learned a lot there, nobody has ever asked me to show my diploma!

I went to SAE to learn about recording, not to be sure of a job in the recording-industry! No audio course can guarantee you will find a job after you graduated.....

Check out www.sae.edu to learn more about SAE, if you are interested!
