A downloader will do as it's name suggests, download nasty stuff.
I wrote an article about ways of preventing this here:
http://www.malebits.com/article37.html
Read through and your first action is to download
HijackThis
and post up the log it will create here:

Those guys are very helpful and will answer quickly giving you advice about what to do to clean your system.
If you have worries reach me on ICQ during the day.
P.S. Often these things come in through e-mail or Peer To Peer sharing networks for free music and movies etc. _________________ It's all in the ears. - Learn the concepts not the software.

| !!!IF YOU RUN A PC WITH INTERNET CONNECTION READ THIS!!! |

As previously mentioned ive got this trojan horse downloader.Having run many spyware progrqmmmes to remove it,I also found another 29 dodgy files!,most of them were 'tracking cookies'.AVG had never detected them and I had no idea they were present in my system.
I STRONGLY ADVISE ANYONE RUNNING A PC WITH INTERNET CONNECTION TO READ ALL THE INFO AT THE LINKS ON THE PREVIOUS TWO POSTS.
There are many programs to deal with spyware.Which is best?Is it ok to run more than one,or do they confuse each other?I know adaware interprets spybotSD as 'dodgy'.
Can we trust anti-spyware?ie do these programs contain spyware themselves? Surely when the companies who are 'spying' on us and can no longer gain access to our computers anymore, wont they make the spyware themselves to gain access?
Could the time of Mac or Linux be upon us?
Maybe a little paranoid

I know it can seem all all a bit much and boy what a learning curve to stay on top of it all.
As mentioned before follow this you'll be fine:
http://www.malebits.com/article37.html
Along with that it's all free.
AVG won't fnd the theings you mention as they are not technically a "virus" especially tracking cookies.
Personally, I do not recommend Adaware, you don't need it if you have the others.
The rest are very good tools:
HijackThis
Spybot
SpywareBlaster
Have you removed your problem yet? _________________ It's all in the ears. - Learn the concepts not the software.

I have Norton Antivirus which is really good and does everything that those programs do in one package and it conmstantly tells me it has recently blocked an attack on my computer.
I dont know if you guys will agree but Sophos seems rubbish and everyone i know including ICT specialists wouldnt touch it with a barge pole
in conclusion: Norton Good, Sophos Bad _________________ If In Doubt...Hit It With a Hammer, If Still In Doubt... Find a Bigger Hammer. |

Don't believe everything you read on the packet, a great deal of adware is
NOT
classified as a virus so not included in a virus datbase such as Norton.
I know the original post is about a virus, but much of this aggrisive marketing crap will certainly hog up your machine!
My advice is try the steps I've outlined I think you might be suprised.
