Week 6 - Samplers - Practical  Reply with quote

Ok, sorry for the delay.

First part of the practical is at the Upload Station in my folder - it is a .zip file that holds a few .wav files and some instructions in a .txt file.

This is a short practical that runs alongside the update to the "Stuff like that" remix practical that I will post now in a seperate thread.

Hi Ben - I have extracted the kick etc from loop 2 and uploaded them to my file. As far as I can tell the BPM of Loop 3 is 125BPM - please let me know if that is correct. I am however struggling with the tasks for loop 1 and 4 - any hints would be useful.

Thanks

Duncan.

Duncan,
Task 1 is basically asking you to edit the sample to a suitable length for use as a 'loop'. In it's current form it would not have correct timing if looped as it is too long so it would need to be trimmed to fit.
As far as the zero crossings are concerned, this means that the sample should begin and end with the sample sitting at "DC" or flat. This prevents clicking or popping when the sample is looped.
There is quite a lot of information on zero crossings on the net so you could always google if you need more information, but I guess when you start editing you will see straight away the importance of zero crossings.

As for identifying the root note, the easiest way would be to play the sample as well as playing either a real or MIDI instrument and moving the note around until you find the 'same' note as the sample.

Hope this helps,
ben m
