"Test Load" for Measuring levels on Reel-to-Reel  Reply with quote

I have read about using a 10k ohm test load on the line out jacks when measuring levels. I searched the web until I'm cross-eyed trying to find some detail on this, but no luck.

Instructions are given to use one in most Tascam service manuals, but they never say what it is, what it looks like, or where to get one.

Is it as simple as placing a 1/4 watt 10k ohm resistor across an output jack. That sounds reasonable, but I don't want to damage anything.

I want to use a tone oscillator to inject a 1k tone at -10 dB into the input jack of a channel, and then measure the output from the output jack of that channel to see if it is within spec. It looks like I need a y-cable to split the output -- one to go to my meter and the other to go into the 10k load, whatever that is.

Could someone please enlighten me on this?

Yep it's just a 10K resistor. If you want to get really pedandtic about things, buy ten from Maps and select a matched pair closest to 10 with a DVM.

I do not mean to be rude but if you are this lacking in basic electronics knowledge DO NOT for (bleep) sake tweak anything in your machine!

Dave.
