use your own samples  Reply with quote

People that come in to make a song never bring there instrumentals in tracks. For example, they bring entire beats on a cd and then I import them. Is there still a way to make the instrumantals sound good?

I can get vocals to sound good, but the quality of the beats they bring me bring down the quality of the whole song.

Get them to use your own samples (if they are better), or get some musicians to play the parts.

i've gone through this problem before time after time.. i tell the artist to have the song fully tracked out so i can mix it.. they always end up saying they lost the disk for the mpc or triton or they don't know how.. or "naw it sounds fine" LOL
so when this happens i tell them, the beat can sound 3x better if you get me each track vs a 2 track mixdown. to enhance the sound of the beat i stick to waves plugins usually.. sometimes the beats have to much or to little bass so i use a little eq or Rbass.
i use a S1 to improve the stereo imaging.. this helps a lot.
then use a LinMB and i can actually get the track sounding really good... good enough to put my name on it.. some track be so distorted i tell them i can't record over a constant clip, let alone i'm not gonna let a fully clipped track play through my monitors
