Hi,
Great forum here!
Wondering if anyone has information on, or experience with, portable digital audio voice recorders (preferably with optional line in jack, USB data storage, FM radio - ok, radio's not essential, just nice to have).
- Are there any models/brands anyone can recommend?
- Also there are ultra-compact, multi-function digital cameras with voice recording features - any suggestions?
Here's what I want to do: I'd like to record my phone msgs/conversations to computer, and record oral notes, interviews, and group meetings. Also need to take pictures, but could try using a separate camera.
In other words, not sure whether to get an MP3/USB/VOICE RECORDER and a separate mini digital camera -- or something that combines both.
Also, products seem to flaunt features, BUT they don't give clear specifications on sound quality and range.
This brings me to my next question. Could someone kindly explain to a complete ignoramus like me what are requisite things to look for (eg, speaker size or type, dB levels, etc).?
What does it all mean? User feedback on products sometimes say recording quality is 'good,' but don't talk about situation, distance, or environment (eg, surrounding noise).
Here are a few different products I came across:
Panasonic D-Snap Digital Camera
Casio Exilim M20
Micro Wonder Tech
Various....

(this one actually lists info about mic and range)
Here's a mic:
Sony ECM-F8 Electret Condenser Microphone with Flat, Boundary Effect Design
Thanks in advance for any help!

This month's RTNDA Communicator has an article on three DAVR's. RCA has the cheapest at $70, the RP5016. www.rca.com
The Sony ICD-BM1 at $300 www.sonystyle.com and the Olympus DS-2200 at www.olympusamerica.com for $290.
The Olympus includes a doking station and can record at fast speed more than 4 hours using two AKG mics in the 4-inch unit. |
