Well, i'm new here. Only 14, but am already well experienced with recording and FOH. Just came to brag about the new toys I get to use! First, we had a dentest in our city donate a brand new Behringer Eurodesk 2442A, which i must say is awesome! Second we just got a FEEDBACK DESTROYER PRO DSP1124P. It is also a excelent tool to have. Right now, i'm just talking to a friend about setting up a studio for him, should be fun, but anywho, i should mosey along...  |

if anyone out there in cyberspace is in san diego they should check out miracosta college. ive ben going there for a couple years now and they just built a multimillion dollar building and several studios inside. pretty cool shit, makes goin to class way more fun than back in high school.... |

Well, i don't mean to brag, but in my school (High School in Laval Quebec.. public..) i have a Mackie Onyx 4880, One Mackie SR 24*4*2, A Mackie 24*8*2, 4 behriger Composer-Xl dual compressers, a yam 15 band eq, and some more stuff like that
The thing is that we have a big music concentration at my school and we got a BIG donation from Bank (40 000$ on a time lapse of 3 years). So i get Alot of toys to plays with 
That is without counting all of the little equpement we got for semi-permanent pratise rooms..... |

And are you learning a lot?
If so, I wonder if you would take the time to tell us how you are learning, in like what kind of style etc, paint the entire picture for us.

Well, i've had learned a lot... these days, i am pretty much at the summon of what i can learn with that equipment. My school has a big music concentration, but it is a MUSIC concentration. There is no official class to be a technician, but luckily for me, i am a person that is very hands on and thats learns easily.
At this point, i were the technical director for 3 shows (seeing that i am the one that knows the most in technical topics overall in my school) There is also another show comming up on which i am the technical director.
I also were able to find myself some spots in some shows as a free technician. I was there to learn and for the experience and they were keeping me for the extra tech. The biggest sghow in which i helped had over 100 000 people (it was the biggest national holiday) and i am very pleased with whart ive learned there...
Anyway, there you go.. thats a sumun of what i did up to now |

Hi Stephen_D
It sounds like you did quite well at your school. I am interested in what some of the approaches to recording; such as, recording classical instruments, jazz ensembles etc. you used. If you could share some of the problems you may have faced with mic placement, preparations in the auditorium/live space or dealing with the conductor/director would be great help for us.
I guess it is the technical aspect that I am interested in, and how you went about solving problems that are inherent with recording. Equipment is, of course, very important. But, how one uses the equipment in different situations is paramount, and we love to hear how you handled tech issues.
I look forward to your sharing an experience or two. By sharing your approach, we all benefit from your experiences that we may not have, as yet, been presented to us. Your knowledge and skill-set will give you a head start in this industry, and I congratulate you for taking that knowledge and putting it into practice. On your way to a successful career. Great job!
