skip_491: yah rv it got our attention too lol
mrbisto: a couple of the others here have a head start with the "vibe" here but it seems everyone is doing good.
skip_491: watch ur step were not exactly sure what he is carring over there>>>>lol
jalevin9: lol
rv_1210: lol
chemirastudio: I cracked, LOL
acousticalweaponsdivision: hehe my acoustical arsenal you mean?
mrbisto: I want to take some time firstly to discuss, or rather me talk, about how your C&G will work, and after that open it up for questions. It wil be more efficient if we save the questions.
mrbisto: After that explanation I want to talk about a task for ALL of you this week, as an ice breaker.
skip_491: ok and yes you big W lol
mrbisto: Then we will be doing the normal stuff we do in here which is learning .. and having good brotherly fun of course
mrbisto: So the C&G will run over the next 15 weeks..
mrbisto: This will pass extremely quickly..
mrbisto: it always amazing me how fast and that's the impression the students always give too.
mrbisto: I think one of the reasons for this is the high workload.
mrbisto: "now he tells us" I hear ...
mrbisto: Seriously though this course really is a big un
mrbisto: There is a tremendous amount of material to cover in each of the modules.
mrbisto: The learning methodologies we use here mean that you will have the information ready when the time comes for the exam.
mrbisto: We are all here for many different reasons
mrbisto: And added to that we all have many different learning styles.
mrbisto: The "key" though is that our learning approach here, which we have proven to work, is called "constructivism" .
mrbisto: I;m not wanting to get heavy with learning philosophies...
mrbisto: but feel it important to mention YOU are responsible for YOUR learning here..
mrbisto: This is a fundamental concept to success with distance education.
mrbisto: Myself and Ben (the other advisor) will set up weekly learning tasks...
mrbisto: In order for you to be able to gain the maximum amount of learning possible.
mrbisto: We will not "spoon feed" you the answers...
mrbisto: but more importantly we will encourage YOU to experience the learning..
mrbisto: By this we encourage YOU to construct the knowledge,...
mrbisto: Now..
mrbisto: moving on
mrbisto: Your course, presuming you want the qualification, is about being ready for the exams.
mrbisto: Makes no difference to me personally if you do not want a qualification, I'm fully aware you may just love subject and wish to dive in deeper.
mrbisto: However, if we talk of the exams for a sec..
mrbisto: The exams are all written.. three hours each one...
mrbisto: On the exams you get presented with a set of short answer style questions.
mrbisto: fair enough I hear you say, BUT
mrbisto: because you only get 15 on each exams, you need to have made sure you have covered all the topics fairly well.
mrbisto: This makes it a tough call.. lots of areas to get into..
mrbisto: SO
mrbisto: Each week you will be set a series of questions, and where necessary a practical to help cement the concepts in your mind.
mrbisto: Typically you get both each week, theory and practical.
mrbisto: The work is set on the monday..
mrbisto: and is to be completed by the following saturday
mrbisto: :-S
mrbisto: That's pretty much a very basic outline of what will happen...
mrbisto: any questions on this so far?
skip_491: none here boss
hoaxwagon: no
reynola31: seems fair enough
jalevin9: all ok here.
x016178: klar
acousticalweaponsdivision: cant think of any
chemirastudio: OK with me
rv_1210: roger that
skip_491: laffin
mrbisto: ok good stuff.. we try to be as light-hearted a sposs in here.. but remember C&G people.. You will be very busy..
mrbisto:
mrbisto: I mean really..
mrbisto: hehe
rv_1210: indeed
skip_491: rot roh
mrbisto: However our ex students al of them as far as I know all look back on it as a good one!
rv_1210: leave your social life at the door#-o
reynola31: dreading it but looking forward at the same time
jalevin9: BRING IT ON!
mrbisto: yes it can seem a mountain to start with..
chemirastudio: No time for bingo
reynola31: lol
skip_491: lol
jalevin9: LOL
rv_1210: haha
mrbisto: but one thing you should realy take on board is the "group" nature of this..
mrbisto: This is vital, if anyone should feel at all isolated, I want to know immediately.
mrbisto: Please do not sit at home staring at your monitor and google thinking oh my god, i'm stuck!!
chemirastudio: I'm in Canada does that count??
reynola31: lol
skip_491: i'm in the woods lol
rv_1210: hehe

mrbisto: So please get that sorted this week.. if in doubt stick it in your editor, it should tell you with a nice picture
mrbisto: which is supposed to be left and right
mrbisto: right?
chemirastudio: As you look at your speakers.Left is on the left, right??
mrbisto: yes
chemirastudio: I mean correct
mrbisto: and in a digital audio editor left is typically the top one.. and right at the bottom..
mrbisto: yes?
mrbisto: I mean the waveforms here..
freshwayne2002: yep
mrbisto: the graphically representation of the waveforms
chemirastudio: Sonar yes.
freshwayne2002: cooledit too

hoaxwagon: ok
freshwayne2002: yep
mrbisto: Good stuff ... don't worry folks it's always the same that one just some fun to make us think.
mrbisto: Now..
mrbisto: What I'd like to do now is to mention an activity I'd like you all to complete.
skip_491: cept for me>>> (
x016178: lol
rv_1210: lol
mrbisto: This involves critical listening, i'm wanting to see how we use our ears, and then use language to convey what we hear.. (no including you skip )
jalevin9: lol
mrbisto: this is skipable, you're in mate.
skip_491: heheheheheh OKKKKKKKKKK !!!!
mrbisto: I have posted a forum topic which is in the public areas..
mrbisto: I would like you to listen to a track and then comment on the production ..
mrbisto: and not leave it at one comment but question each other through the week.
mrbisto: The track is The Jackson 5's ABC
jalevin9: Good timing Chris. lol
x016178: Will the jury be singing?
jalevin9: lol
acousticalweaponsdivision: haha
mrbisto: You can find an mp3 of the track here http://www.audiocourses.com/part3/ in week 1 folder
mrbisto: Thisis obviously for educational purposes only.
chemirastudio: or torture
rv_1210: hehe
freshwayne2002: ..... pity you didn't pick something by Jermaine jackson (!!!)
mrbisto: Chem a good point that needs some discussion here..
chemirastudio: Hey
mrbisto: Makes zero difference to me what your tastes in music are..
chemirastudio: but the pain
mrbisto:
mrbisto: hehe
chemirastudio: I know what you are saying and you are right
mrbisto: Plus this is not a reflection of MY tastes.. it is a "job" ...
acousticalweaponsdivision: still painful listening though:)
mrbisto: The job has been posted here in the forums: http://www.audiocourses.com/ftopict-1472.html
chemirastudio: I have tried to open my ears up to different music
mrbisto: that is where you are to reply and post ..
chemirastudio: Great excercise
mrbisto: chem, I can't remember when my ears were not open ...
mrbisto: :-O
mrbisto: so yes I would agree a good excercise
mrbisto: Let's have a chat about the types of things we should be listening out for in this track (tune)
mrbisto: anyone?
freshwayne2002: amazing how much the sound of music has changed since then.... for the most part
jalevin9: Arrangement?
jalevin9: Recording Techniques?
jalevin9: Compression?
mrbisto: no harm in mentioning arrangment i guess.
mrbisto: definately techniques
x016178: Keyboards and Bass used.
mrbisto: compresison good
x016178: ?
mrbisto: keyboards and bass "sound" yes
freshwayne2002: effects on guitars ect?
hoaxwagon: hot vocal mixes
mrbisto: yes good
jalevin9: How the sounds interact with each other?
mrbisto: yes
jalevin9: Where the sounds are in the mix?
mrbisto: I find it interesting if we can find adjectives for what we hear...
mrbisto: we allmust have used words like "dark" "warm" "thick" "punchy" etc..
mrbisto: descriptive words
mrbisto: no?
skip_491: boomy bass?
mrbisto: there we go
skip_491: airy?
mrbisto: sure
jalevin9: How certain sounds "cut" through the mix?
skip_491: smiling
mrbisto: you got it
jalevin9:
skip_491: /
skip_491: #:-S
mrbisto: What you may find is that with experience, I mean some of you may be able to now, but you wil start to be able to recognise sounds
mrbisto: like recognise compression easily..
mrbisto: recognise reverb plates
mrbisto: recognise bands of frequencies
mrbisto: recognise early reflections
mrbisto: recognise pre delays
skip_491: righttttttttt on
mrbisto: recognise background room noise
mrbisto: etc etc..
skip_491:
chemirastudio: Can't stop dancing
chemirastudio: help
mrbisto: hehe
jalevin9: lol
skip_491: gooooooooo mickieeeeeeee
skip_491: mikie too
mrbisto: is anyone unsure of what they are to do with this activity?
mrbisto: please speak up..
skip_491:
mrbisto: I must stress the importance of using the forums.. it's vital
x016178: Sounds fine. Chris, I noticed this isn't the original recording. Do you know when this one way made?
mrbisto: Brent this was either 69 or 70 ..
acousticalweaponsdivision: hmm I am a little unsure
chemirastudio: what tipped you off? x
x016178: The panning on the left hand side with the overdubbing of what sounds like another Jackson.
reynola31: can't comment right now, don;t really know the song, but will give it a listen and comment
acousticalweaponsdivision: have to listen to it more i guess
chemirastudio: Drums all right hand side bass left stuff like that
chemirastudio: small perc left
skip_491: chris is that under general under the open forum?
x016178: Of course it was originally on a record so nobody I think heard it then as clear as we're hearing it now.
mrbisto: skip the link is: http://www.audiocourses.com/ftopict-1472.html
chemirastudio: alright x, never had the album, and yes I know what albums are
x016178: Chris can we post mp3s up? Could be interesting for me to post up the copy I ripped from B
x016178: Grandmas Lps
chemirastudio: cool stuff say yes say yes
skip_491: got it chris thanks
mrbisto: Brent, I think that should be ok for educational purposes, which would probably get deleted the following week.
mrbisto: Or..
mrbisto: a better way would be to simply send it through yahoo to who wishes it..
mrbisto: we do not want links to ripped mp3s on the forums
mrbisto: that is a no no.
x016178: Cool.
mrbisto: the RIAA would not be pleased.
mrbisto: So for the next 30 mins how about we talk about US..
mrbisto: and our projects, what we are doing and into etc.. where we want to go..
mrbisto: unless you wish to have questions about your course answered first?
mrbisto: please do ask away if you do.
mrbisto: silence? .. my my.. everyone reading?
skip_491: no i'm printing for amoment
freshwayne2002: X-( we're all shy!
