Hola,
One thing I can say is Tommy "Truely" know's his stuff about that Marcus Bass! I've contacted him many times with question's about the Bass, Preamp mods, and basic stuff, alway's with great and helpful info. Read his various post on Harmony Central pertaining to the Marcus. Thank's for all your knowledge, "The smartest guy I Know"!!!

Peace,
Bobbo

ben m,

Do you know if Fender Japan has incorporated your modifications into their production of the MM4? That battery drain problem sounds like a design flaw.

Your article was very informative. I am thinking about getting a MM4.

Thanks,

bsdguy

Hi BSDGuy,

not to the best of my knowledge although I can't confirm this - probably best to email Fender to get it straight from the horses mouth.

The problem can be easily rectified as shown in Tommys article, and if you don't fancy doing it a guitar tech wouldn't charge you very much to make the modification.

It is a great bass for the money, very good for slap with the active circuitry on and obviously a more traditional jazz tone when in passive mode.
At the moment I'm getting some almost precision like tones out of it in conjunction with my Ashdown ABM.

cheers,
ben

Static & Grounding Issue  Reply with quote

Hello Tommy & Friends

I just recently bought at Marcus Miller 4 Jazz Bass, brand new, about 2 weeks ago. I love this bass and it sounds amazing however i'm having some issues and when searching google, thats how i found this forum.

1st of all - i have noticed that this bass has a very heavy static charge to it. When i clean my bass with a little cotton cloth there is so much dust that collects near the pick guard and i assume this may be because of the grounding issue?

2nd - I also notice that in addition to the static problem (these issues may in fact be the same problem) when i touch my bass in certain areas near the pick guard i can hear static & some kind of crackle occur. this happens in active and passive mode but is louder in active mode.

I took the battery OUT and tried my bass - it still plays in both modes (significant volume drop in active) and static still occurs in both modes with battery OUT.

do you have any solutions to this problem? It sounds like a serious fender flaw!

feel free to email me @

derekpresti@gmail.com

thanks
