I have 2 audio files with the same song, one with music & voice, and another only with music, is there any kind of "subtracting" function to make a new wave sound containing only the voice? (We are supposing that both input files are identical and synchronized) Any little idea will be well received. |

Hi Latisha
Extracting the voice out of a mixed file is not such an easy process, and I dont think it can be done thoroughly. I do remember coming across a restoration company once that claimed to be able to do it - but I cant remember the name!
There might be hardware/software processors built for this task - but with the money you may spend getting this done, you might as well re-dub the vocals. |

Hi Latisha,
well if it is exactly the same performances of the music then you could try inverting the phase of the instrumental version then, ensuring that the 2 tracks are lined up perfectly, and that you are monitoring in mono (either in your DAW or desk, i don't mean through one speaker), mix the 2 tracks together. Ideally you want the music to be the same amplitude in both versions and if this is done correctly the material should start to suffer from phase cancellation.
When you have found the best levels to achieve phase cancellation you can bounce down and you should have removed most of the music.
This isn't perfect but it will allow you to isolate the vocals somewhat.

Audio/ Mp3 editing programs like FlexiMusic Wave Editor would be of use to do it. With simple command like copy and paste and Channel Mix bring both files into one file.

I haven't heard the software that could extract voice. As conquistadore said that is an enormously hard task, beyond the current software capabilities.
You can do some simple frequency filtering (i.e. an equalizer type of software), but that will not exclusively capture music or voice. |
